Newcastle United vs. Tottenham Hotspur

This is going to be interesting. I'm actually glad the first few games are away. If we have an unproductive transfer window the supporters are going to need time to settle down.

I still think we will win.

I really don't know what to expect of this game, how many of the ' 1st eleven ' will be playing, how fit or knackered will they be, what is their appetite for yet another season where nothing has really changed ?

I must admit to be being really flat for the start of a new season.

Walker and Stones both playing for City.

Is there any reason Kane etc cant?

Anyone who watch the last 3 England games in WC can clearly see that Kane looked like he was running on empty. I hope he had recharged otherwise we will have a long bad start to the season again and concede so much to the front runners that we are just chasing shadows subsequently. Dier and Dembo looked like they were in a totally lower level when they came on during WC. I hope we signed Verty on a longer contract. If he goes too, hmmm....we have a real problem.
Having said that Newcastle looks a worse place to be. If I were Rafa, i would walk into that bugger's room and ask him wtf are you doing?

Poch loves them 3. He will trust them at 60% rather than gamble on kids and squad players he doesn't rate or trust yet IMO.

The only thing we have going for us is that we have the same squad as last season so everyone should know the system by now. Trouble is, so will the opposition. Looking at the WC performances, Dier, Alli and Kane were clearly not world class when put to a real test, and this squad’s performance over last season was not good enough to win anything......clearly strong reinforcements are needed if we are to improve, and clearly they are not coming in time if at all. No idea what to expect in this game.....maybe Poch will surprise me.

Poch has spoken.....

“It would be better for these players (who were involved on the final weekend of the World Cup finals) to miss the first one or two games, than to play and end up getting injured, missing more games further down the line.
“It is a massive challenge for these players to get fit in time for the Newcastle game…almost impossible.
“If we feel it is too much of a risk to play these players, then no matter how much work they have been doing, we will not play them.
“I messaged Harry Kane (after he turned up for training early) saying he was showing great commitment. He replied ‘Gaffer, I want to be ready for Newcastle.’
“I told him you need to rest, because 20 days is the minimum time you need to have off at the end of a season, to ensure a full recovery.
“It shows great commitment, but we will assess all of the returning players on Monday, and we will not be taking any risks.
“It’s going to be a long season and we need to ensure that these players have had the right amount of recovery before starting it.”

So that means...

Vorm
Aurier CCV Sanchez Davies
Amos Sissoko
Moura Eriksen Son
LLorente

Subs: Gazza, KWP, Tanganga, Skipp, N'Koudou, Marsh, Georgiou

Hopefully, some bluffing from Poch though !!!

I do feel the PL has grossly negligent and reckless to start the premier league so early, straight away before a ball has been kicked they have penalized clubs that support their national sides.
If spurs were playing a CL game and rested 9 players for a league game they would be in trouble, I don't see moving forward how they can fine clubs who play a weaken side for PL game.

I imagine Jan and Dier will play.

When does Son leave for International Duty? If he is around for the first one or two games, he'd be my striker choice well before Llorente.

spot on Top. The other European leagues don't start for another week . Why the fuck we are starting when we are is rediculous . The window closing early as well is just beyond belief . Can you imagine top European sides putting in mega bids for Eriksen , Alli , Jan etc after our window is shut . It's just a nightmare situation that could easily happen . I know in the past ,the Chinese and Russian Windows have shut after most of Europe , but this is a whole different ball game
