So after a mixed summer, on and off the field the season kicks off with a tough but winnable game on Sunday.

Newcastle have brought a couple in, but they are basically the side that sneaked the Championship.

Assuming trips is injured

Lloris

Wimmer Toby Jan
Dier Davies
Dembele Sissoko (Wanyama)

Alli. Christian
Kane

Bench

Vorm
Sissoko (if Wanyama fit)
Janssen
CCV
KWP
George
Winks
Someone if Wanyama injured

Newcastle did the double over spurs in their relegation year so this game maybe tougher than it looks on paper hoping for a spurs win but wouldn't be surprised or overly disappointed if it ended in a draw.

I thought I read Newcastle had brought in 5. I think Bentitez has been raiding the Spanish clubs. He is no mug. Just have to hope too early for them to gel.

Once again, these are the games we MUST come away with all three points.
No way would I be happy with a draw.

Will we conceded?
Not if we play like we did V Juve.

Will we score?
Kane and Dele will get one each.

Normally we have the starting eleven and we are in form to win such a game against a newly promoted club.

But if we don't strengthen the squad with 4-5 appropriate players, it will be very difficult to compete successfully in all competitions the entire season.

Some other EPL clubs have strengthened significantly their squads.

We still lack quality depth.

We finished up the season winning by 5 or 6 goals away from home. More of the same please.

...and why not indeed.......start off as we ended ..send a message to the others that we again mean business

Only a stonking 4-0 victory will justify the shambles that is Levy's latest Transfer Window. It doesn't matter who we buy now (if anybody) if we start the season losing games to teams that we know will be beaten by the top clubs. If Wanyama is out I don't fancy our chances tbh.

Team is in a mess, how can we go into the start of a new season like this, complete embarrassment.

I wouldn't go that far!

It's unfortunate, but not a complete mess.

I agree that we should have got a couple of players in by now, including suitable cover at WB/RB but no one could have foreseen Trips hobbling away from Wembley with a protective boot on.

Got a feeling both Trippier & Wanyama will start. If they do we should have too much for them.

Wanyama won't be match sharp and Trippier twisted his ankle from what I heard. That's not a quick fix or play through it. But we await to see how he does.

I would rather KWP with Sissoko in front of him although Dier is probably safer at RB . That will weaken our MF unless Toby or Jan move up with Wimmer coming in.

It's not ideal and it depends what approach we take into the game. Benitez will have a strategy or two so I would go in cautious rather than gung ho. With Sissoko on the right it gives some pace on the break as he has shown in the past.

Benitez has started the same 11 in their last two pre season games, those 11 have played the most minutes of all the pre season players . He has played 30 players in total.

Sounds like he is settled and ready.

Told that Trippier won't be fit enough for sat - but will only be out for just over a week or so. If true, good news.
