New star wars films.

Vital Champions League
Lucas has sold Lucasfilms to Disney for $2.5 billion.

next one is suppose to be released in 2015.

Thoughts?

There is enough star wars fiction out there for them to go on forever, but where do you recon they will go?

Way before vader, Luke's kids story? or a whole jarja binks franchise?

All i know is that Disney will be looking to recoup that money in about 2 films and merchandising is going to have a vast sway on the story.

How about a post-end film of the story i.e one that's 'current?'...say 25 years of more after the end of the first trilogy..

Opportunities then for lots of new characters, and to use some 'old' ones, but based around the same old good v evil story...?

Never thought Lucas would sell as the revenue stream is still as string as ever..

As you say, will be interesting to see how Disney exploits it now.

I believe there are a lot of star wars novels involving the kids of luke and what ever he diddled, and Leia and han solo.

But there are a billion stories on the market, which apparently are all well written and stick to the basic premise lead by the film (either before or after the film). I think Disney would be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn't stick with those.

Also they could mess around with indian jones again. Though im not sure if they could top how bad the last one was.

Star wars is the perfect franchise for Disney as they can make as much money off merchandise.

After it merged with Marvel nearly all the people connected with avengers got put on 5 films contracts, so they definitley are in the habit of getting as much as possible for their money.

Seriously why, did the living goiter not have enough money. Each bloody film more risible than the last.

:1:

as Harrison Ford said at the first private screening when Coppola and Scorsese were rolling in the aisles: "you can write this shit George but it sure is tough to say"

Absolutely detest Star Wars franchise. The film that destroyed art in 70s cinema

Apocalypse Now
Taxi Driver
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot
The Last Detail
many, many more great early 70s films then ....

rubbish :13:

Couldn't agree more, ST2. Lucas and Spielberg infantilised Hollywood cinema and the results have been horrendous. I walked out of the original Star Wars, Odeon, Holloway Road, 1977.

And I ain't goin' back!

After 2001: A Space Odyssey, John Carpenter's 'Dark Star' is all we needed on that front. Classics.

The kids were cinema's future though. And they knew it.

Apocalypse Now came out in 1979...

as did Alien

Ya know what I miss. The mini series. It would typically take a great story (novel) and do it justice because it had the time to. Books condensed into 120 minutes or less are either shit books to start with or they produce a shit movie.

BRING BACK THE MINI SERIES. Great television with an end.

There are plenty of miniseries. Check HBO, USA, BBC or FX networks, for recent gems.

Don't need that much television.

To be honest, i'm quite interested in how these turn out. I'm one of the few who actually like the second trilogy (well....ok, 2 & 3 - 1 was easily the worst in the entire franchise, followed by 6). Certainly willing to give it a chance. Don't forget, Star Wars is a family film franchise and if anyone can produce a family film franchise, its Disney. It doesn't have to be Phantasia or Beauty and the Beast.....

HAs anyone seen Skyfall yet? Apparently it opened in Europe before here.
