In the Echo. Smart money on Ben Whitfield.
we still need that wide left midfielder, and we need a central midfielder that can buzz around and win the ball back... woodyard-style.
whitfield appears to be more of a link man, and we just signed mccartan specifically to do that task.
it could be luque is signing, we can hardly keep him on trial for much longer - although heybridge's season doesn't start until the 11th aug.
or maybe - inspire of what he says publicly - dc has always been looking at a utility defender, and it will be mcqueen, crookes or mbulu.
with an effective squad of 18 any new signing is very welcome.
City do not need another Woodyard. A change in style will be welcome. I think a forward looking player who looks for defence-splitting passes is the way forward...... literally.
Bostwick or O'Conner can do that anyway.
do you not think frecklington, andrade, pett are capable of defence-splitting passes? mccartan is a classic number ten. i guess we could always have two...City do not need another Woodyard. We don't need another Woodyard? Are you sure?
Absolutely sure.
City often had two deep lying players in the centre of midfield last season with no one probing into the opposition's defence through the centre of midfield. It resulted in long angled crosses up to Rhead which in the end proved to be only partially effective.
Effective enough to win our first national trophy ever and make the playoffs..
I do and I am so pleased they are in scintillating form. Pett has been excellent. However, if Woodyard was still with us, one of them would not play.do you not think frecklington, andrade, pett are capable of defence-splitting passes? mccartan is a classic number ten. i guess we could always have two...
Absolutely, no one can argue against that. But would you rather see City evolve into a team who can adapt and play different ways to nullify the opposition and win matches or continue virtually exclusively with the long-ball game and have no plan B or C?
Is that guaranteed, then?
Plus, Woodyard has just moved to L1 and I'm pretty sure he will be used in different systems at Posh.

I would hope we have a more fluid and less rigid style of play now. Quicker, crisp passing and plenty of movement in the midfield.Woodyard, or similar, being in the team will not dictate what perceived style we play.
