New Mobile Phone

I need to look into purchasing a new Nexus 5 mobile phone sim free, and I would obviously like to pay as little as possible. So I thought who better to ask than the good folk of Vital if they knew of any retailers who do good deals on sim free phones?

Any help would be appreciated.

I thought that you had to buy this direct?

Anything from anyone else will involve a contract, won't it?

You could try ebay as well, for second hand ones.

No, Amazon have them, and Carphone Warehouse had them at £240 at the weekend! Bloody missed it! I intend on moving to GiffGaff in a month or so, but my phone is dying and is driving me nuts.

I used to love the Nexus range of phones which were pure Google cheap and brilliant.

I ditched them when they rebranded them Google Pixel and hiked the price for a worse product.

Been with Oneplus ever since, although to be honest disillusioned with them too now as their top end phone is virtually the same price as Samsung /Apple.

I think I'm right in saying the Pixel is only a mid-range phone though so probably lots of better and cheaper alternatives out there.

For example the Oneplus Nord CE 2 was released today and is a great spec for £299

The main selling point for the pixel is unlimited Google storage, so that's a consideration if you use Google photos / email / drive etc.

Talking of phones I got my new one a week ago. Like you Wursell my phone was driving me nuts as it had so many different things wrong with it.

I paid off the last month of my contract and upgraded. I was hoping to hang on a couple of months so I could get the S21 or 22 cash as I have some money coming to me this year.

I couldn't, hold off any longer. I'll just pay the device off when I get the money. I've just got the S21

Not much difference between that and the S10 feature wise. Just it has a better camera and far superior battery life.

My new Pixel 6 arrived yesterday. It's bigger and heavier than I expected. The camera is fantastic but I haven't fully played around with it yet.

I have moved the other way. Got fed up with these massive 6.7" flagship phones.

After some research, I bought an ASUS Zenfone 8. Same innards as the usual flagships, but a 5.9" screen.

The new Xiaomi one is going to be 6.2", so maybe they realised not every one wants a huge phone?

I'm on a Note 9 at the moment. The Pixel 6 is the same size. I bought the mrs an S10 a couple of years ago. I think it's a better size and weight.

With my cycling I just got fed up trying to find a pocket to fit them in. Men's trousers and short seem to have very small pockets these days.

Ordered the Samsung S22 Ultra to be with me next Monday. Upgrading from an S10 which I have traded in towards the new phone. Its expensive, but its probably the one item I use more than anything, and will keep me going for a few years. Supposedly a superb camera. Get it now before the worlds events make me skint!

I'm already looking forward to seeing the photos.

Let us know what you think of it Chico? My S21 I have just bought has 3 camera lenses on. The S22 has 5 I believe.

So, I am out of contract and have no real urge to change my phone. Found a decent SIM-only with Vodafone (same data etc. for cheaper than I am paying) so all good.

Today's the day they told me they are taking over my number, and indeed they have. Fantastic! Unfortunately I am yet to receive the required SIM card. So I am currently phone-less.

Which is a little inconvenient :arrghh:

Just been a bit naughty and ordered myself a new phone.

I'm ditching Oneplus for the first time since 2016 when I got the Oneplus 3T. Since then I've had the Oneplus 7 and currently the Oneplus 7T.

I'm not completely betraying them though. I've gone for the Oppo X5. It's complicated but I believe Oppo and Oneplus are effectively the same company.

Bought it on pre-order for delivery on Thursday and got a fantastic deal.

£750 for the handset. I had a £30 discount code + 2% cashback which brings it down to £705.

Pre-ordering means I also get £373's worth of free accessories.... Some wireless buds, a smart watch, a wireless charger and a case.

I'll probably sell the buds and the watch, plus my current handset on ebay. Reckon I'll get £400ish for the lot. So effectively the new phone with wireless charger and case is costing me £300.

It's also on 9 months free credit.

Here's the phone -

I'd have loved the pro version but that's another £300 on top so couldn't justify that.
