Freddie Draper, Reeco Hackett and Dom Jefferies have all committed their futures to the Imps by signing new contracts.

Being realistic, I am not sure any of them will be first team starters once the window closes. They have a grand total of no Championship appearances between them, plus the rumoured new signings look likely to push some of them to the bench.

Well we've got a lot of players with everything to prove at Championship level don't we, these three included. I'm sure they'll get chances to prove themselves though whether they're starters or not.

Regardless, I think all three would bring in a decent fee as proven League 1 performers so this is sensible management to protect that if nothing else.

The club really has got it's act together getting so many players to sign contract extensions. Whether any or all of these players are the long term future of the club is undetermined but at least they will command some sort of fee if and when they move on.

I think it is a two way street. Reward for their efforts, protection for us. It helps build trust and reputation to keep the current players morale up and to send a message to potential recruits. I take from this approach:

We ask for commitment but won't stand in your way.
We will not hang you out to dry after you have contributed, even if your long term future may be elsewhere.
(Say this bit quietly) If we get relegated we will retain the core of a side.
