Never rains when it pours

I think God hates me. On my way home from work when the clutch goes on the car, now I have the expense of getting it fixed and have to hope that the gearbox isn't knackered as well otherwise that's all my redundancy pay swallowed up. I need a car so I have to get this one fixed cos I can't afford another car. My last day at my job is this Tuesday and now I have to hire a bloody car cos I can't afford to lose the bloody pay. And because its bank holiday weekend I have to hire the car from Saturday and not Sunday so it's an extra bloody day's rental (going to be between £50 and £60 for Saturday to Wednesday) and I won't get to know the extent of the cost of fixing my car till Tuesday at the earliest so I won't get my car back till maybe Thursday. What else can wrong??

Clutch kits on ebay are reasonably cheap, as is a Haynes manual, gearbox should be okay, some cars are easier than others obviously, but it's a lot cheaper than paying a garage and the chance to learn new skills : )

Starchild you are right it never rains when it pours, very sorry to hear you have been made redundant. I hope things get better quicker.

You're in a difficult place, Starchild. It's one of the times when if one door closes, another slams shut. The good news is that these things tend to be temporary. You just got to hang in there. Good luck.

well a ray of light enters the proceedings folks. It seems I have level 4 breakdown cover and so 1) I won't be charged for the breakdown call out (even though I had forgot to change the car details from my old car) and 2) it means I am able to get the frst 48 hrs of hire covered too. Knowing it was a bank holiday weekend I rang Enterprise first to sort a car out now I only need to pay Monday Tuesday and Wednesday myself.

Have to say that sounds like a good day to me my friend!

Smile... the holte end will smile with you!

Star dude yam a top lad and yam going through crap after crap and i know how you feel as others really do and it feckin gets you down proper, keep your head up cos you will fight through this but when we am in the crap we don't see through it, life can be so cruel and om really sorry to hear the way things keep going wrong but good ens always hang in there and find a way out of it sooner or later which is why you will,

Life does my head in sometimes as all of us, just take each day as it comes and the trick i found is not to start thinking worries upon worries if you know what i mean, so if this happens this might happen and then,,,,,don't fall for it, yam breathing so thats a good start the rest is a battle,

And there is nobody who you know who can fit a gearbox? If you was round by me instead of all up North i would ask my uncle dude, but keep your chin up and remember you ay on your own and we all hope things get better,,,,,feckin life ay sometimes :26:

"What else can wrong??"

Plenty! Do you want to tempt fate? This has inconvenienced you and hit your pocket.

The other way of looking at this, is that your clutch went, it didn't seize the gearbox and wheels that could have lead to an accident, no one was injured, no one died.

Cars come and go, so do jobs, always try to take the positives my friend.

And best of all folks the mighty Villa grabbed a vital win today. Always makes me smile when we get a result. Just need Arsenal to do what Liverpool should have done and beat Hull City on Monday night

I know how you feel mate, I want Stuart Bingham to lose, and he keeps getting lucky!!! FUCK YOU WORLD!!!!

star let us know how the clutch goe's.

It sort of made a loud clunking sound as the pedal dropped to the floor of the car :17:

The hire car is nice though, a 14 plate Fiesta diesel - the missus doesn't want to give it back.

I once got my dick caught in my fly in a field on the Isle of Man while my back hurt. True story. The good news is that life gets better. I'm no longer on the Isle of Man. If only I could get my dick out of my fly.

In which case your clutch is fine and it's either a failure somewhere in the hydraulic clutch, cable or linkage depending on vehicle, should be cheap to sort, what car is it?

its a Ford Focus 1.6 02 plate. At first the clutch pedal seemed to barely raise off the floor but I was able to change gear but I immediately suspected there was a problem, I just had to hope I could get home. A few more gear changes later (for junctions, roundabouts etc) the pedal seemed to resist any pressure on it and barely moved, but again I was able to select a gear but by that point I just knew I was not going to be getting home. And sure enough, I changed down for another roundabout and the thing just gave way under my foot with a loud clunk and dropped to the floor leaving me unable to select a gear and free wheeling to a halt.

I am so totally useless at car maintenance it's unreal. I can change a wheel and some other basic stuff but anything else I leave it to the garage to do and they are great. They never over charge or "find" things to bump up the bill and they always call me to give me a price before they do any work. And price wise they are terrific and a lot cheaper than many other garages. And they always give me a run about car whilst my car is in the garage, something they don't do for everyone. Not being in a financial position to just go and buy an almost new car, I have to buy much older cars and they keep them going for me until not even they can make it cost effective to fix.

Hopefully just a clutch, what you give as the fault leads me to think its the clutch plate or possibly the release bearing breaking down.

Either way if its repairable and in budget replace the fucking lot, clutch kit complete.
