Napier Barracks, Folkestone

As predicted, charges have been dropped. No apology from police yet. Article raises some interesting issues regarding freedom of expression:

Do you know the full circumstances, Bud ? I don`t, so have no idea whether or not an apology is appropriate.

Having sufficient grounds to make an arrest is a completely separate matter to having sufficient evidence to charge a person.

I dare say it will all come out in the wash.

No, I don't mate. My comment was kind of inspired by this (from the Grauniad article):

On Friday, Aitchison said the arresting officer had called him to say there was no evidence to charge him and that his bail conditions, which had prevented him from reporting on events at the barracks including a fire last week, had been dropped.

“However they have not apologised,” he told the Guardian. “I am concerned that they still have not fully taken into consideration that I am a journalist and my initial arrest should not have taken place.

“Not having access to my phone has had a serious impact on my work this week as I have been uncontactable to clients. In addition, my family has been suffering from my mother’s death, and not being able to contact friends and family to arrange the funeral has been distressing.”

He added: “I’m in discussion now with the legal team about what should be my next move with my case.”

If his legal team think there is a case for wrongful arrest they might sue the police. As you say it'll all come out in the wash.

Yet another cause for the professional demonstrators 👍
Try and fit it in around Palestine, Travellers rights, BLM, ExR and the flight against Dunkin Donuts dominating the world of donuts.
Good luck with your causes.

Steve Treacle lives down that way.

Buddha could maybe meet and reassure him about the traveller issues ?
Park a filthy , knackered caravan on his drive for a bit of realism ?

Seriously though , the attraction of protesting/vandalising in London will prove too strong.
Marching arm in arm with supporters of Hezbollah , Islamic Jihad and the al-axa brigades.

Whatever protest he attends , I hope the police record his presence there , on the grounds of national security.

Buddha seems to forget that these people (mostly young men ?) made their own decision to travel...
...often thousands of miles...
...through civilised countries in Europe....
....without stopping in any of several countries.

Meanwhile due to ~ 1,000,000 extra people arriving - legally - every 3 1/2 years, we have a "housing crisis".

Why are these (habitual?) protestors incapable of focusing on the bigger issue ?

- and what about people leaving the UK ? ... eg there are statistics that show, roughly 381,000 left the UK in 2019, for example....

https://www.statista.com/statistics/283600/emigrations-from-the-united-kingdom-y-on-y/
If they were home owners or tenants then I would imagine that other people would move into their houses / flats /caravans?

Out of the 3 million EU nationals in the country 5.4 million have applied for permanent residence, so Brexit hasn't freed up much housing capacity.

Maybe Napier Barracks are not all that bad after all ?

Children tell of neglect, filth and fear in US asylum camps - BBC News

Can you imagine the outrage if the UK returned 7,000 refugees and asylum seekers to their country of origin without even attempting to legally process them?

Can you imagine the outrage if the UK transferred unaccompanied minors straight into holding camps?

All should be grateful that we live in such a caring country.

On the international scale of shittyness, our level of shittyness in the U.K. is generally better than most other countries level of shittyness.

I'm going to propose Buddha for an award. He has written the equivalent of Война и миръ; in one shift.

Ooh, a SurreyBOB award, I'm so excited.

Have absolutely no idea what "Война и миръ" means, however.

Nope 😁
Shit
Shitty
Shittyness
If you want to compare shittyness, you could argue that one countries level of shittyness was worse and therefore shittier.

Shittier, I'll give you that. It's the correct spelling of a comparitive. Shittiest is the superlative.
You're welcome 😆

Some of the 'do gooders are complaining that Napier Barracks are too dirty. Well give the illegal immigrants some cleaning gear and get them to clean their living quarters up. That's what the soldiers would have done when they were billeted there. Also they claimed there was no room for social distancing in the accommodation, though the didn't seem to care to much about it when protesting outside the main gate.
