Mykhailo Mudryk has been suspended by Chelsea after what they say is an adverse finding in a recent drugs test.

Edit: This is from multiple sources and research papers.

The Athletic reported that they have been told by multiple anonymous spurces that Mudryk tested positive for meldonium on international duty with Ukraine in November.

The pharmaceutical company Grendiks, based in Latvia, produced meldonium.

Meldonium is a fatty acid oxidation inhibitor, mainly used for heart conditions, such as angina. The medication works by altering pathways for carnitine useage in the body. Carnitine is an amino acid derivative that helps the body convert fat into energy. It's a vital cofactor that transports long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria, where they're oxidized to produce energy. It is not widely used in the UK as a treatment option, however it is widely used in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Individuals with a normal, healthy heart will gain a significant advantage as it helps reduce body fat, whilst maintaining muscle and helps the body become more efficient at using fat stores for energy. This in turn spares protein, which helps maintain muscle mass.

Some over-the-counter fat burners have been spiked with meldonium to increase their efficacy. It has also been found in testosterone boosters and off label creatine supplements.

As was mentioned to Springy Park a few weeks ago, you should be careful here Soccerates. Rather than copy/pasting text directly from a media outlet it's always better to instead post a link to the article.

Of course, summarising the content of an article in your own words is fine, but this reads as a copy/paste. My apologies if not.

First part was lifted from the article, rest is my own about meldonium, however I can rework it.
