Here is a world record of the largets mosaic of a collection of pictures to make my great grabndad when he was a brae knuckle boxer when he was 17, all us grandkids/great grandkids have a picture of him thought i would share with you guys:-

it was the worlds largest mosaic of my great grandad when he was 17,,,,this is the BBC reporting on it in Birmingham and E&S:-

************************************************************
Arthur James Bunce in 1926 when he was also 17.

A Black Country boxer has been immortalised as the image of the world’s largest photo mosaic.

An historic portrait of amateur fighter Arthur James Bunce, from Tipton, was chosen as the winning picture for the world record attempt, which saw a giant version of his image recreated with more than 112,000 photographs.

The huge 30m by 30m mosaic successfully broke a world record as the largest project of its kind and was unveiled outside Thinktank at Millennium Point in Birmingham.

It was created as part of The Big Picture, an arts project which saw thousands of people send in photos from across the region.

The winning image was chosen from the thousands of entries and was sent in by the boxer’s 18-year-old granddaughter Lucy Moore, also from Tipton.

Originally taken in 1926, it is a portrait of Arthur Bunce taking part in boxing training as a 17-year-old.

Born in Dudley Port, he spent his working life at Patent Shaft steelworks in Wednesbury.

He had 14 children and died in 1987 at the age of 78, but the photo has continued to be an inspiration to all of his family.

Former Alexandra High School and Sandwell College student Lucy, a mobile beauty therapist, said she was totally overwhelmed by the final mosaic.

“It still hasn’t hit me really, everyone is just so excited about it.

“This photo is so important to my family,”she said.

“I never got to meet my granddad but he and my nan were always at the heart of our family.

LOL om sure its there somewhere (it was my nans brother that was the Villa family side not sure what team he supported as i was only really young when i used to visit him before he died)

I and the family am proud mate, its just nice ay it to look back on, i learned he was such an hard working bloke he used to comeback from the foundry work as black as the ace of spades and have a wash and go out and bare knuckle box for extra income,,,,blimey i couldn't imagine it tbh (hard times wasn't they back then puts me to shame mate)

Cheers for your kind words Club dude :35:

It is BBJ dude, we was lucky our great grandad got chosen out of all the entries to have made up of the mosaic tbh, it does give a real sense of how us younger dudes take things for granted so much today looking back at how hard and times also back then compared to know, i love the nostalgic stuff tbh

LOL erm i think he was a bit mate LOL like a bloody rabbit LOL

We later found out the story behind his bare knuckle boxing days and he was nicknamed all round the UK he boxed as the Tipton Slasher out of honour of the real Tipton Slasher who was before him and there is a monument of in Tipton town centre cos my Great grandad was undefeated lol he never lost a fight,,,,i was blown away tbh cos i bet there was some bloody tough blokes back in them days, he was only a small framed bloke but round my area he was erm ''respected '' lol

Bless him he was a righteous bloke and very quiet never bragged or anything about the war boxing etc we had to find out off others who knew him and over time we learned more about him and my family did a bit of research, if he was around today he would give me the kick up the backside when i needed it defo!!

It is hard to get your head around putting all the little pictures together to make one giant original picture ay it??? I ay got a clue how they do it tbh,,,,Cheers Steph dude

That's fantastic Clive. It's brilliant that members of your family feel they know him even though they weren't alive when he was. And what a work of art! Fantastic!

Cheers dudes, it is nice for the younger family member who never saw him, i used to visit up until about 8 years old before he died, i can confirm he was very ''old school breed'' lol

Great story that (albeit you shouldn't use all of that wording, just a couple of paragraphs then link... you're breaking copyright!)

He sounded lively!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Incredible. I have 2 kids and they are relentless. How you deal with 14 kids, I don't know. I'd imagine he wasn't living in a mansion either. He probably got into bare knuckle boxing for the peace and quiet.

:10: :10: :10: :10: No way ya sod :19: i am the same as BB how he coped with that many kids i will never know, but he had more than 14 kids in the end my mom says 21 kids in total as he married his wifes sister when she passed away so had another 7 there is that many i ay met half on em tbh loads at family parties over the years but i couldn't name em all and there kids kids etc :19:

I do agree, i bet work all day at the foundry then boxing was a way of dealing with so many kids, i am proud of him but back in them days all blokes WAS BLOKES!!!
