What's everyone's bet on the Murillo situation? Will we have him for the whole season? Even longer?

The BBC today are amplifying HITC reports that he is being monitored by no less than Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea. That would be some bidding war.

Anyway he might yet make it as a centreback because he's got better at jumping.

Would like to think he will be here for the season but injuries to key defenders at any of the clubs mentioned could see a Jan move.

It’s a shame because our central defence looks as solid as it has for many a year but he’s undoubtedly destined for bigger things. I’d hate to see him go to any of the vultures here in England but any of the three continental giants would be acceptable.

More suitors the better ££££

Obviously I was concerned about his heading and his role in a defence that was incredibly weak last season

Pre season he kept making errors that cost us goals as well

Anyone watching would not have been impressed pre season and his value would have fell

Since the season started he's done great. Focussed on defending and simplified his game

100 per cent I can see him in a Real Madrid shirt somehow

Regardless of when he goes the thing we will really miss is his passing and distribution from the back which has been superb this season. Taking the goal kicks with sels etc

Defensively we can replace him. Replacing the quality passing from the back to feet will be the hardest bit and likely not possible like for like

I honestly was worried we would never get the silly money being talked about him the longer people watched him closely

But he's gone the opposite way and I think nuno has helped create a role/system that gets the best from him

A lot depends on where we will be in the table at the beginning of January - whether we will be on the way to achieving something significant or fighting for survival. We are most likely to sell Murillo if we are in the golden middle.

Are there any other sites publishing this apart from those clickbait loons at HITC?

Has he really gotten better at jumping or has his positional sense improved?

I would say its the latter; he is now getting into positions to win the ball in the air.

Its a shame we do not have some statistics to work with - Murillo's headers won from passive jumping or dynamic positioning.

Note to self: stop inventing idiotic football terminology, remember what happened last time?

Last season we conceded 1.76 goals per game

This season we are averaging just 0.8 goals against per game

And playing nice football alongside it

I was crying out for a tighter defence. Thought we might need a new manager to get one

We are picking up more points by being tight at the back

Long may this continue
So you think 5 games is a sufficient sample size to draw a conclusion from?

No that's exactly why I say

"Long may this continue"

At the end mao

(But it's very promising as we've had 3 away games in the 5)

I certainly dont see this squad conceding the 67 we conceded in EPL last season

55 or less would be a great improvement

We can't actually expect less than a goal a game ongoing for the season

That's Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool territory

And we are only hoping for 45 to 55 points ish aren't we?

We have planned, with purchase of Carno for end of season move.

We have learnt from attempted transfers you can only attract big names (and they weren’t that big) if you/they are not threatened by relegation and clauses and even better likelihood of Europe. Too attract names we need to be in Europe or threatening to be.

Third point is most of the clubs mentioned are spent close to limit re PSR.

As things stand right now, I think things look very rosy. Murillo will big a huge transfer boost at the end of this season. Alongside our improved standing in the league, it should allow us to sign the next calibre of player to continue the upward trajectory. This in turn could well allow us to keep MGW at the City Ground if we're looking like a genuine top half club. A boy can dream, right?

Thats right, Polly; we appear to be buying for the future, eying up replacements before we have to sell.

Both Carno and Stamenic are highly thought of and will hopefully prove more than good enough once we move a player or two on.

We look far more organised this season, and that is a large part of defending.

The only time we have looked stretched at the back was a spell on Sunday, when Brighton realised we had fuck all protection in front of the centre backs.

Thankfully Nuno picked up on that and introduced Yates; we looked confortable again after that.

Regarding MGW: I find it interesting that as soon as the Club mention a contract extension, rumours appear in the press about interest from Manchester City.

I wonder if it is genuine interest or a story drummed up by MGWs agent, attempting to get the Club to get this one over the line in double quick time.

If someone comes in with an 80m plus offer in Jan I think we take it-we have Morato and the other chap loaned to Olympiakos. Personally I think its 50/50 whether he stays in Jan

Cant see it happening in January; all of the big boys, apart from Liverpool, have spent their budget for the season.

We also have to factor in the new P & S rules which come into effect at the seasons end; not sure anyone fully understands what impact that will have on the market.

I think it may temporarily drive prices down; it certainly will not drive wages down.

I thought danger on Saturday was down the wings

Another way to have played Brighton was same as Liverpool away

Might have nullified the threat a bit

Then hit them late on

It's all a learning curve regardless

And Newcastle. Man City have money in the bank but have other priorities…

I was surprised we didn’t line up that way if I am honest. Just because of how Brighton play. That being said we looked impressive until their first goal so no have no complaints about how we set up.

He'll be here until the summer IMO then off to one of the giants,

I'd love it to be Madrid just to have a recorded sale to them on our books for £100,000,000 or so :)

A sign of how far we have come
