You either love him or hate him - to me he really is the Marmite manager, ever since he christened himself 'The special one' I've had a healthy dislike of him and the way he behaves, but what I couldn't ever do is deny that the man's a singly, selfishly focused absolute winner.
We've had debates here before about Managers criticising players in the media - it was a clear division here when Harry used to do it - it was to me a tool in the box of tricks managers used for them to great a diversion for the media pressing too hard on other matters....
But I'd have to say that Mourinho's public criticism of a young player who looked every bit a very special player in his own right before his awful leg break is about as low as I think I have ever seen him stoop.
Maybe I'm simply not clever enough to see the 'motivation' that his constant denigrating of the lad in public is going to achieve, but I thought last night Mourinho finally hit a new low (even for him) with his comments after the match;
Mourinho made the claim post match that
" he had a good performance, but it was his body with MY brain, he was in front of me and I was making every decision for him.
The communication was possible because we were close.
He cannot play with my brain, he must accelerate the process. He is old enough to have a better understanding of the game".
If I were Shaw, I'd be telling him to go f**k himself. Shaw must be longing to have a manager who would put some belief back into him and help him to climb the heights he was reaching pre-injury.
Is it right for Managers to criticise players like this in public?
As I said, all I heard post match was another manager making excuses for spending vast sums and achieving mediocrity who easily and wittingly bends the slavish mainstream football media to help him hold onto his job, I wish they'd wake up and stop being enthralled with the bully and start asking him some difficult questions.
