Jose Mourinho urges Real Madrid’s president to appoint Mauricio Pochettino

Metro Sport ReporterThursday 18 Jan 2018 12:16 pm

Jose Mourinho has recommended Mauricio Pochettino to Real Madrid‘s president Florentino Perez, according to reports. Madrid’s hierarchy have reportedly decided to sack Zinedine Zidane at the end of the season following a poor first half of the campaign. Madrid have little chance of retaining their La Liga title as they currently sit 19 points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Joachim Low is on Madrid’s list of candidates to replace Zidane and could make the move to the Spanish capital after Germany’s World Cup campaign this summer.

But according to Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness, Mourinho has urged Perez to appoint Pochettino in a private conversation with the Madrid president.

Mourinho has publicly praised the job Pochettino has done at Tottenham, who finished second in the Premier League behind Chelsea last term. Tottenham would hold the upper hand in any negotiations with Madrid as Pochettino’s signed a new contract last year which expires in 2021.

Haha! I don't think anybody needs to tell Perez about Poch. He saw first hand earlier this season how good a job he is doing for us. Levy needs to break the bank to keep Poch here though. Always offer him more than Real would offer to keep him.

I don't think it would be about money for Poch, doesn't seem to be his main driving factor - didn't he only get an agent this year? He'd have more security here and gets to build a legacy if successful.

He's continuously said that his main aim is to win trophies but nothing would make him happier than to do it at Spurs. I'm sure he would like to manage Real one day, but at the same time I don't think it would suit him. Like you said, he's building a legacy here and he'd never get the time to do that at Real. The club and fans are far too fickle.
