Most Competitive PL ever?

Recently on the main forum I said that I thought that the gap between the 'lessor' clubs and the top clubs was smaller than ever and that the whole quality of the teams competitiveness had taken another notch upwards...

This is worth a read, and it does give cause for a debate, has the PL competitive gone up, down or stayed the same?

In a wider context how can it have gone up when the paucity of EPL teams performance in Europe is such that we are in very real danger of losing a ECL spot to Seri A? West Ham and Stokes woeful Europa league turns means we need at least a quarter final in the Europa and possibly a semi final in the ECL to maintain our metric.

Three reasons

There is no easy games in the EPL
We play to many games
The league/FA don't look after our teams in Euopre

Don't see how it's become more competitive when Chelsea or Man city or maybe United win it.
In terms of revenue it's more competitive in reality it's not.

Individual games are more competitive, but I don't think you'll see much difference in league standings, beyond the odd blip.

I think the full impact of the increased TV revenues has yet to be felt. Another year or two and we will have a better idea if it will create parity.

Yup agreed... don't think the EPL would have the same rep without the TV money and even though the payers with the most re-known skills play elsewhere....

Far too early for the TV money increases to be showing any effect.

Over the last few seasons we have seen an increase in the number of times lower clubs beat the top ones in the PL - at least that is how it feels to me - so its not just this season. I don't see how an unbeaten run is significant, other than it shows possibly that no one team of the established top four are head and shoulders better than their rivals right now.

In Europe our dominance seems to have fallen. Is there a correlation between that and the number of top quality English players at the PL clubs qualifying for the CL now compared to, say, five years ago?

There are no easy games in England, even if you draw a lower team in the cups.

There are endless 4/5/6 - 0s in the Spanish league

Spanish teams, especially, get the opportunity to rest players during the league or during individual games. Would you drop Dier, Kane or Lloris against a mid-table team here? Would any of those three get the opportunity to come off after 60mins because 'the game is effectively over'? Very rarely.

Spot on

It's so unbalanced in other leagues
