More Brexit bollocks - this time fishing

A banana skin waiting to happen; the Govt wants to curb foreign ships from indiscriminate fishing in our waters without perhaps realising that the vast majority of fish caught ends up in the EU and we have no deal as yet on cross-border trading with the EU. Someone said on TV that we're giving what the fisherman want but that's like asking someone why they voted Leave. Someone rang R4 yesterday saying that he voted for a hard Brexit; no he didn't. No option, other than 'leave' was given. And even to-day on the Johnny Marr programme, Gove lied about the EU. He said that when we leave we'll be able to determine our own taxes; we do just that on all taxes and levies apart from VAT which is an EU-styled tax but we still set the rates within bands. Bozo lied about taxes and Gove is continuing. Fishing accounts for .05% of our GDP or something like that and yet it's getting far too much attention compared with far more important matters to sort out.

Putting Brexit to one side for the moment I would like to infiltrate this political thread with a football comment. Didn't our boys do well yesterday. Pickford is turning out to be one of the best keepers in the tournament. Very glad that all the concern about Brexit didn't play on the team's minds and affect their performances (Sterling excluded - obviously the fishing quota/access issue in our own waters was really stressing him out)

I shall report you for deviation of maybe I'll get Nicholas Parsons to do it.

You do know that there is now a recognised mental illness that some are suffering from due to Brexit.
It's due to the obsessiveness of denial of the result of the referendum.
Who said what is now totally irrelevant.
It's all about what is going to happen, not what has.
Gove was 100% correct in his statement, but you have chosen to interpret it differently, as did Marr in his line of questioning.
Marr was made to look a bit foolish in my opinion.

What was interesting was at the end when Gove said that the whole cabinet was in agreement to step up the no deal planning, just in case.

This offer will be put to the EU and they can make their own decisions without the help of WayneKerr. But cheers anyway.

Brexit has to work or we're fucked. Gove said quite clearly that leaving the EU would allow us to set our own tax rates; he didn't specify VAT rates but taxes without qualification. I din't misinterpret what Gove said neither did Marr; it's like Bozo sticking to the words on his battle bus.

Eff me Wayne … watch it back.
When challenged by Marr he clearly said VAT.
Whatever, it's f*cking irrelevant.

Oooh!
Look.
A straw!
Let's clutch it and see if the result can be overturned.

It's over mate.
Japanese Soldier comes to mind!

He only said VAT when challenged before then only the word 'taxes' was used.

Yeah!
So what's your problem?
He was certainly not meaning income tax, or council tax or inheritance tax or any other kind of tax that the EU has no control over.
Or maybe you thought he did.
Or maybe you're just causing a bit of mischief?
Cheeky boy. :grinning:

I'm not sure your totally accurate Wayne, the cost of marine diesel went up when the EU forced through a fuel levy on it, the British Government fought against it at the time.

Brexit has to work or we're fucked.

I presume Wayne doesn't drive or look round many car parks or he may get an inkling that as well as us being fucked will be:
Audi, VW, Mercedes, BMW, Citroen, Renault, Peugeot, etc

He also presumably doesn't have any Bosch products in his house or drink any German beer or French wine.

Oh, of course they only export to us as a favour and will easily find replacement markets:slap:

The fish thing would always be a small volume issue as a percentage of trade but a relevant example of the straight jacket that the EU typically impose.

So what - if yacht owners want to swan around why should they benefit from red diesel, which is meant for fishing boats? You wouldn't expect to have access to red diesel on terra firma would you?

OK then - we limit foreign boats fishing in UK waters but who or what will replace them as we sell the majority of the fish caught to the EU? I did point out that Brexit has to work or we're fucked. I currently run a VW and have had BMWs and Mercs in the past but the Germans have said they could sell as many to China but, of course, not at the high premium price they charge UK customers.

If they could sell as many to China then they would already be doing it. If Frankfurt or Paris was better for the city then they would already be there. Basic business Wayne. I thought you were an expert at all things financial.

Why bother when you can fleece the Brits?

We dont just get imports from them - BMW employ 10,000 in this country.

Earlier this week BMW said it would be forced to close its UK plants if the company cannot quickly and reliably import components from mainland Europe after Britain leaves the EU

Investment in Britain’s car industry has ALREADY halved because of uncertainty about the UK’s future relationship with Europe - £2bn invested in the last 20 years most of which has gone back into our economy.

..... who or what will replace them as we sell the majority of the fish caught to the EU? ,,,,

As usual, a one-sided "fact" from a Remoaner.

Apparently we export 70% of UK fish to the EU ..... and import 80% from the EU (or it may be the other way round..)

But the point is ..... unless the fish we export are some godawful species that "we" hate but Johnny Foreigner loves ..... it isn't quite as one-sided as you claim.

Next .....???

The trouble is Durham, that these brexiteers will either ignore that or mumble 'Project fear'. I think they're all in denial.
