Modesto & Anigo OUT!! (?)

With regard to criticism of the recruitment team, notably appointed shortly before Aitor left - the accounts and incredible wages being paid perhaps explain, why we've been shopping in the bargain basement?!

Playing staff have been cut dramatically this season, with a reasonable profit on disposals too - so, it's perhaps worth noting that 'recruitment' also involves squad management.

As we can see with Zach Clough - it's not easy to offload players on daft wages!

They've handicapped themselves OKD.

Semedo, Muric, Mir, Diakhabi, Bong, Jenks - just sign Freeman or Robinson on loan instead of all that crap etc.

Jan is a prime example of how not to do it. We've now Bong here on a 2.5 year deal, a burden to screw up future windows.

The whole strategy is shit, and the current recruitment team are frankly awful. If they wanted more wiggle room for Jan, they should have sourced better than Mir, Muric, Bonatini etc. in 2019.

They are in a mess of their own doing.

Most were happy at the prospect of Muric & were questioning why we've signed Samba?

Mir, Bonatini - just add to the long list of those loanees that haven't worked.

Judge Bong & Jenkinson when fully match fit, not when Bong thrown in for a full debut & neither have played for months, in a game when SL changed 5 of those in outfield positions - Sabri admitted his mistake - you are being unfair on the players in that scenario!

Far too many like you are happy to write players off, without giving them a chance.

In terms of being in a mess of their own doing, Aitor threw his toys out of the pram when they appointed Anigo/Modesto etc - presumably, based upon the signings he'd made & wages being paid - many of which we still have or have had to offload.

Aitor wanted more money to spend that January - no wonder someone said no, or that it was conditional that he had to offload players!

Some see it glass half empty - the way that I see it, is that they are taking steps to correct that mistake at the beginning of their tenure - if only it was as easy as playing FIFA!.

There is always a risk when signing players, some just don't work out, but I'd say there are plenty of decent signings, many with a saleable value and we're obviously targetting youth too!

I wasn't, but either way fan opinion is irrelevant to recruitment actions. They're paid to do a job. They're failing to do that job, miserably.

We needed match-fit, ready-now signings for now. No point in Bong being fit for the last 2 games. No point in Diakhaby finding his feet for when he returns to Huddersfield.

The strategy behind sacking Warbs & employing AK in the first place was the root of all that. AK didn't sign half the crap that has clogged the wage bill up in 2019/20 either.

What youth have we targetted?

Which young signings have we made under Modesto who are looking promising?

Fairly certain we signed more players under AK's tenure than we have under SL's. The legacy is very clearly identified in the accounts to May 2019 - AK's period of control, latterly we had MON - but, he did not sign anyone for any money in Jan 2019!!

We have already offloaded many of those players.

How can they be failing miserably? - we're in the best league position since 2012-13, but some are never happy, the glass half empty moaning types, too myopic to see the progress made.

Brice Samba, Tiago Silva, Ameobi, Samba Sow, Yuri Ribeiro - have all proven to be very valuable additions.

Jenks, Bong - jury's out. Chema sold for a profit, as he wanted to go - looked decent though.

Loanees haven't been great & we also have Adomah, who has gone to Cardiff & who are paying all of his wage).

In terms of youth players signed, these are since the end of last season:

Siampanis (GK), Rezart Rama, Liam Sole, Julian Larsson, Morgan Sadler & Marcus McGuane.

Clearly, we don't know whether they will turn out to be decent signings, but clearly evident that that are looking at youngsters to add to those from our academy or for our reserves, with a view to first team involvement in due course.

Not sure how good Freeman and Robinson are at leftback. Be an interesting lineup.

Jenks and Bong struggled against Charlton and looked rusty. Shouldn’t judge on one performance. Semedo, Mir, Muric, Bostock and Diakhaby are all on loan. Having a good look before parting with money and offering long contract. I am not sure what you expect? Seems like a solid strategy when seen alongside the youth policy.

Feel time is right for Johnson and Mighten to start ahead of Diakhaby and Samedo.

Judge and jury on Bong after 45 mins. He was always bought as cover, a week before window closed, so didn’t expect a lot.....but think you are a hanging judge.

That's assuming we could have persuaded him to stay!

How on Earth do you persuade a player with 6 months remaining on his contract to turn down a move to a PL Club?

Sheffield United did us a big favour taking him off of our hands; he was a liability.

However Bong turns out you can bet your mortgage that he will not be as bad as Robinson was.

Criticising the Club for letting him go is insane; just as insane as the criticism for not signing players who turned us down for whatever reason.

Grosicki turned us down and signed for West Brom; Freeman turned us down and chose to stay and fight for his place; Murray turned us down because we would not cave in to his hideous wage demands, and there were others who turned us down.

But we should not let the facts get in the way of a totally unhinged, irrational diatribe based on fantasy and fiction

My thoughts exactly - we got £500k for Robinson (rising to £1m), who we signed on a free and saved 6 months wages.

I thought Robinson did ok for Forest, but he had his limitations, like all players at this level.

Agreed.. Johnson and Mighton over those pair all day long.

Rather than scouring the continent for talent we should be developing our own. U23’s just put 5 past a poor Bolton. Clear at top of league. Mighten, Gomis, Swan and Johnson 2 on score sheet. When will they be given a chance. Johnson is better than Diakhaby.
