Millers injury news 2026/27

Usual Millers "slight niggle"/ "taken off as precaution", then out for months? Let's hope not! Five players out injured already, some of them were regular visitors to the treatment room last season.

Rotherham Advertiser website - Update on Marvin Kaleta's hamstring injury. He is going to be sidelined "well into September, possibly beyond".
Of course it's nothing so bad as last season but already injury is disrupting the cohesion, most obviously with the promising MF partnership of Spence and Jellis. A few seasons back (I think it was Plymouth when they won the league) I looked after 12 games and found they had not lost a single player to injury, not one. Because of the dire situation in the last few seasons here we think half-a-dozen out is pretty good.

Despite numerous injury-prone players leaving over the summer , we have several more signed by MH still left - Kaleta, Spence, and Agbaire, plus Duncan's contract was extended. The ones who departed don't seem to be making a big impression elsewhere yet.

Spence I like but I'm afraid right from the off and 'blistergate' it's been a story of injury. A year ago I read 'Spence coming back from injury stronger than ever.' Six months ago a calf injury against Bradford (I think). Now another calf injury.
With the best will in the world you cannot build a competitive team on players however good who are regularly unavailable. Wishful thinking gets you nowhere.

Watching this forum for a number of years, it sometimes seems to me that some posting on here are happier when they are criticising any negative they can find about the club they "support".

Yes we do have a history in recent years of losing players to injuries, that's true.
What a few on here don't seem to take into account is that we are no different to most other clubs in this respect.

Have a look on any EFL clubs football forums and you will see that they will be bemoaning their lack of players due to a plethora of injuries.

The likely reason is that the players are pushed to the absolute limits these days rather than them not being robust enough.

The games are played at a faster pace nowadays, there doesn't seem to be many lulls in play to get a rest like there used to be in years gone by.

The days of players being ever present over a season, especially for midfielders and forwards seem to be over in general.

Obviously there will be exceptions, because some players bodies will be more resilient but I just think that the workload piled onto players in the modern game is bound to lead to more muscle injuries and strains.

I've no doubt that the medical staff at the club are doing their best to keep the players fit and the new manager seems to be trying to look after the players welfare by not rushing them back too soon.
We can only hope this approach will have long term benefits as the season progresses.

Oh, Dear. Another one emerges. I'm afraid you can't have it both ways. If 'we are no different from most clubs in this respect' how then explain the repeated utterances from the chairman, the COO, several managers, the local media and Uncle Tom Cobley going back over several seasons to the effect that '...our problems were down to injury...I've never experienced anything like it...' 'The number of injuries we have had cannot be down to bad luck and I'm determined to get to the bottom of it...' 'The club has signed players over the last few season who are simply not robust...' '...unprecedented...' '...unparalleled in my experience...' '...I've never experienced anything as bad in my managerial career...' Quotes from Douglas, Stewart, Taylor, Jimmy Olsen of Tizer, Lee Clark, Hamshaw, Evans.
And don't post the 'seems to me' baloney, and 'some on here' and putting "support" in inverted commas. Don't snipe at other posters, just state your view.

That is my view.

You need to go on other forums and see that these injury problems are not confined to NYS. It's possible you might be surprised and even temper your view.

" Another one emerges" have you ever considered why this site gets so little traffic.

Well, I'll tell you, it's because new posters don't seem to be welcome, as is confirmed by your attack on a first time poster who happens to have a different view to yours.

You are the third 'new' poster who has in the last couple of seasons opened up with 'having watched this site over...etc', then immediately referred disparagingly to 'some posters on here...' and then usually referred to "support" or "supporters" in inverted commas. You can hardly then refer like some wounded innocent to my 'attack'. I don't care about your views being different. I don't expect or want people to agree with me. I value all the opinions expressed on here but I won't accept thinly veiled digs. If you want to sit poring over your collection of signed Tony Stewart photos then good luck. But this club has just suffered a second relegation and lots of us are unhappy about it. And I don't subscribe to the 'shut up and put up' definition of supporter. You do. Fine.

Does this site get 'so little traffic'? One Millers site where negative views were hounded closed down a couple of years ago. Another seems populated by people more concerned with politics and point scoring. So far as I can tell you didn't post on either.

I'm not wounded or surprised by your attitude.

I've been reading this site long enough to know about your mainly negative stance on all things Rotherham United.
That's fine, it's your point of view and you have to live with it so carry on being you.

I'm as disappointed as you about what has happened to the club during the last few years but I don't see the value in being negative.
The only way out of depression is to try to be positive and I believe the club is accepting its mistakes and willing to get us on a new path, or at least trying.

I watched both the other sites you mentioned and used to post on MM years ago but for some reason it lost my user login and I had trouble sorting it so gave up and fell out of the habit.

It doesn't alter the fact that there are only a couple of handfuls of regular posters on here and if it wants to expand its membership and increase its traffic, it needs regular posters to encourage new members.

Maybe you disagree, again that's your perogative.

The cheapest recruitment option hasn't usually been the best value option for the Millers over recent years. Players who are "free transfers" are often (but not always) in that category for injury reasons. When asked a question about why we got relegated twice in three years Steve McClaren (not a poster on this site!) said something along the lines of "You haven't paid any transfer fees for players - what do you expect ?"

And yet......................!
We haven't paid any fees this close season either.
But then again only Salford, Grimsby, York, Barnet and Bristol Rovers (surprise, surprise) have actually paid any fees, and the total fees paid is less than £250,000.

McClaren rightly pointed out that money needed to be spent, especially to stay in the Championship and the to try to get out of League ! at the right end of the table.
Maybe he knew little about League 2 when he was interviewed but it seems he has been happy to fall in line with the 18 other clubs that didn't bother with fees?

I am very pleased to have another positive poster join us! Welcome!
