Millers injury news 2025/26

In that case it suited us for Rafferty to be injured. He had a torrid first half. Maybe because he was injured. Or maybe MH is sparing his blushes - who knows? I like Rafferty in that role on the right of a three. I like his aggression and he is a good experienced defender, but he struggles against genuine pace.

Rotherham Advertiser - interview with Millers coach Richard Wood... Tom Holmes' recovery programme is going well and he could be back playing in late November. He is scheduled to resume outdoor training next week.

Hugill substitution in game v Man. City U-21 was tactical - he's not injured. Sherif could be available for the weekend, after recovering from injury and illness.

RUFC Official website - MH said that five players have minor injuries from the last two Millers games. He's hoping that they will all be fit for Saturday, but no risks will be taken (Rafferty, Raggett and Spence were mentioned).

Sam Nombe was also interviewed and said that he now feels fit enough to start games.

Rotherham Advertiser website - confirmation that Baptiste and Jules (again) are injured - extent not fully known yet.

We must have the most injury and sickness prone squad in the history of football. We are back in a dangerous position, after having scraped a few wins together to move up the league. We could also be losing more players on international duty soon. We are already having to play players out of position, although that has, sort of, become a "Millers tradition". MH keeps saying that fans should judge him when we get our injured players back... but "tomorrow never comes".

Mike, it is beyond farce. Look by contrast at Stevenage. Their team and bench for the 9 August match against us is almost identical to their team and bench for the 25 October match against Bradford. What is going on? I posted weeks ago that we cannot progress because players are often only available in cameos. There are perhaps only three or four who are consistently available.

Difficult to see us making much progress in the league, with the constant stream of injuries and illnesses. If it continues we are likely to get relegated, unless TS spends some money in the transfer window... and not on players who can play for about half an hour before they break down again.

Ayres should be available for our next game - if he hasn't been sent back out on loan by then.

Rotherham Advertiser website - Rafferty, Benson and Spence should be fit to play on Tuesday.
My comment - still leaves us very short of defenders.

Update - Sherif was taken off yesterday as a precaution , he's not injured (!). Kelly may also be back for Tuesday (although we're not really short of midfielders).

Well a couple of weeks back MH told Jimmy the injury crisis was finally easing! Really? Why are our players so fragile? Apparently two were injured during a single training session. There was a film in the 1960s titled Situation Hopeless But Not Serious. Sums up Hammy clinging desperately to his formation imo.

Does anyone know if the half-time sub today of McWilliams was tactical (though I thought he was having a good game) or precaution or injury?

Nothing was said. I thought he was playing well too.
I would like to think it was tactical. He was always going to give Martin Sherif 45mins and the obvious choice is to replace a midfielder and play two out and out strikers up front.
Not convinced McWilliams was in the game as much as the other midfielders were. ( Gore, Powell, Spence.) McWilliams did nothing wrong which is why I reckon it was tactical.

Word on the ‘ street ‘ is the Training pitch is the problem despite having thousands of pounds spent on it in the past.
What the problem is I have no idea perhaps it needs an ‘ expert ‘ bringing in to assess the situation.
Not the first manager to mention a training ground issue.

If indeed it turns out after all to be a training ground issue then imo over several years the club has been dilatory if not downright negligent. Players' careers can be at stake.
