Milk buying boycott?

The Fear

A Wise Man (once sat next to him)
I don't drink milk, but interesting read:

http://www.theguardian.com/money/2012/jul/27/dairy-farmers-milk

Dairy farmers are telling consumers not to buy milk at Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl or Londis – and think twice about Asda and the Co-operative – as the battle over prices spills on to the high street.

The row centres on the "farm gate" price paid to Britain's 14,500 dairy farmers, most of whom will, from 1 August, receive just 25p a litre for the milk they produce compared with around 30p before. The price cut will force many into bankruptcy, warns the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers, which along with the National Farmers Union and Farmers For Action say that 30p a litre is the minimum price that producers can survive on.

Yes the supermarkets have given the farmers a hard deal for a few years over milk.

£1 for a four pinter in Sainsbury's now.

Edited cos I just commented on your post without reading article which I have just done.

They have been screwing the dairy farmers as long as I can remember from every direction, not just the supermarkets.

1 of my Uncle and Aunts were dairy farmers/4th generation and back in the 70's when they went into the common market that was when the rot really started

I drink very little milk anyway its not that great for you & the only milk we should drink really, is that from our mothers when are born. We are the only species that drinks milk after infancy and it could be trigger for many allergies, gut/digestive problems that we see today.

Human Bodies Fight Cow’s Milk;

Besides humans (and companion animals who are fed by humans), no species drinks milk beyond infancy or drinks the milk of another species. Cow’s milk is suited to the nutritional needs of calves, who have four stomachs and gain hundreds of pounds in a matter of months, sometimes weighing more than 1,000 pounds before they are 2 years old.(28)

Cow’s milk is the number one cause of food allergies among infants and children, according to the American Gastroenterological Association.(29) Most people begin to produce less lactase, the enzyme that helps with the digestion of milk, when they are as young as 2 years old. This reduction can lead to lactose intolerance.(30) Millions of Americans are lactose intolerant, and an estimated 90 percent of Asian-Americans and 75 percent of Native- and African-Americans suffer from the condition, which can cause bloating, gas, cramps, vomiting, headaches, rashes, and asthma.(31) A U.K. study showed that people who suffered from irregular heartbeats, asthma, headaches, fatigue, and digestive problems “showed marked and often complete improvements in their health after cutting milk from their diets.”(32)

I do feel bad for these farmers, but I don't think a "boycott" is going to make any difference. People drink milk, and people like things cheap, no matter what the farmers say I doubt there will be any noticeable impact on sales.

Interesting discussion about drinking milk though, it is pretty weird when you think about it.

My two kids drink about 3 or 4 250ml bottles a day so i need to pay as cheap as possible tbh, but i do feel for the farmers, we need to have them cos if start importing everyting or manufacturing it in factories etc prices would shoot up anyway and there would be an uncertain future on things farmers produce

Peta was just the 1st link I found - ive known this info for years and can find loads more if you like..The link you posted is just stating how long we have drank milk = yes I agree...And that humans learnt to tolerate lactose = again I agree in principle. However we are finding out that some allergies, gut problems, etc are caused from cows milk.

Oh no. Shoot me. I agree with GT on something. Really, my life is over.

I cant consume much Dairy. I don't produce enough Lactase to digest the Lactose. I can take Lactase in pill form, if I have to, but choose not to.

Apparently, we all stop producing this Enzyme during our lifetime at some point. Evolution may fix have fixed this if left to work freely, but with modern life it is unlikely it can.

I'm sure some people do have health issues due to milk.

The main error is people who say they are allergic to milk. Very few people are, as this is a very different reaction.

Lactose intolerance is probably quite common, but it is so mild it doesn't have a massive impact for most. If you get a bit bloated after consuming a lot of dairy products, then you probably have a Lactase deficiency.

It begs the question what was going through the first blokes mind when he looked at a cows udders and thought "that's the drink for me".

Bit like honey, how hungry do you have to be to raid an insects nest with thousands of stings likely to attack you.
