Early kick-off for the season opener this Saturday and it couldn’t be a tougher fixture. One of the furthest away grounds, buses leave the stadium at 4am for the 12 hour, 684 mile round trip.

Middlesbrough finished 8th in the table last season, just outside the play-offs.

Transfers in:

Delano Burgzog - 25 year old Dutch left-winger, 7 goals from 33 games for relegated Huddersfield on loan last season from Eredivisie club Mainz 05, fee €2.75m.

Aidan Morris - 22 year old USA International central- midfielder from MLS club Columbus Crew, fee $4m

Luke Ayling - 32 year old right-back, a free transfer after playing for Boro on loan from Leeds second half of last season.

Danger man is centre-forward Emmanuel Latte Lath, 16 goals from 30 games last season.

Last away game at the Riverside, Sat 6/4/24, we lost 2-0, a brace from Latte Lath. Boro clinching the double over us after we’d suffered an earlier 1-2 home defeat on Sat 16/12/23.

Their pre-season finished last Saturday with a 1-0 home win over Eredivisie club SC Heerenveen. A stoppage time penalty from Burgzog deciding the match, after Latte Lath had missed an earlier penalty.

All Boro so far, Abdulai fouls in the box for the penalty, Tymon exposed by Jones, Cabango and Key poor. Swans looking outclassed, lucky only one goal in it so far.

FT: Boro 1 - Swans 0

Boro’s first win in 9 seasons of first game of the season.
Only the penalty separating the sides.
A predictable defeat though with Boro five straight wins against us.
Swans blunt up front which we all knew.
All that talk about a great pre-season of preparation but today Boro keeper Dieng zero saves to make with not even one shot on target.
With no quality in the final third and with 18 goals from last season departed it was always going to end in disappointment.
