Messi, a bottler?

Vital Champions League
With Messi signing a new lucrative contract at Barca, doyou think he isa bottler for not even having the slightest desire to play in the Prem?I know that no Prem sidecould afford him, but Messi has never shown any interest in playing in the most competitive league in the world.

I think he is scared of playing in the Prem because he feels that the physical side and the fact he would be playing a cup final nearly every week, would just be too much for him.

Sorry, but the best players in the world should want to play in thebest league in the world. Messi has shown no interest.

Maradonna played in Italy, Zidane in Spain, Cruyff in Spain when those leagues were the best. It wasnt fashionable to move abroad in Pele's day.

Messi has it cushy and he knows it, financially, climate wise and oppenents wise, he does nothave to stretch himself which is why, for me, Ronaldo, despite the fact idislike him, is currently the best in the world.

Messi is loyal to the club who made him. He said he will only leave when barca don't want him. He is not a bottler but loyal and wants to be at one club his whole life.

Then he has limited ambition. For someone who could prove once and for all that he is the best player in the world, he should want to test himself. He was poor today by the way.

Slate players for not being loyal and now they lack ambition if they don't want to move. He is in the top 2 players in the world. He is happy with that and wants to play for barca. Why should he move. To go and play for man city because they can only afford him. So what if he was poor today, is he not allowed to have off games??

I'm not slating him for being loyal. All of that is commendable, but he is too comfortable. Barca are not the best team in the world anymore in the same way Cruyff could see the limitations with Ajax who were arguably the best side when he was there. He moved to Spain becauseit was the best. Maradonna moved to Italy because it was the best. Messi is unlikely to play in the Prem because no one could afford him, but he he no intention of coming here and never has.

Bottler for wanting to stay at one of the biggest clubs in the world, who have supported and trained him when so many said he wouldn't succeed, in one of the best leagues in the world, playing against some of the world's best players such as the current Ballon D'or, playing in a team who plays great football, playing in a league that is renowned for great football, in a league that has 3 of the best teams in Europe, in a country that is the current world cup champions, in a country that is the current European champions.

The mistake in your thinking spurs67 is in thinking that the premier league is the best in the world. It aint.

Also, using your thinking, surely Ronaldo should be pushing for a move to play in Germany otherwise surely he is a bottler too?

Your points are all flawed meee. The Premier league is by far the most competitive. For years Messi has been able to cruise through the majority of games in La Liga.

Ronaldo has already tested himself at Manure, not sure your point about Germany, its no more competitive than the Prem but besides that, Ronaldo has tested himself in more than one league, he has nothing to prove.

Messi is in the comfort zone and I genuinely think that even if a Prem side could afford him, he wouldnt risk playing here.

I dunno, if the tables were turned and Ronaldo went from Portugal to Real Madrid.... I don't think he would suddenly transfer to Manure ... do you?

Messi reached the top from the off, when you do that you don't look back.

I don't see why he should feel like he has move when he's competing in a league with the worlds best teams.

So the premiership isn't the league of the best teams, and I would argue that it isn't even the most competitive. When you consider how tight the Italian league was this year it certainly looks more competitive for the majority of teams.

Messi would walk it in Italy and would show his class there, just like he does every year when he comes up against the best that the premier league has to offer.

What a load of ****** !!! If Messi's a bottler I wish a lot of Spurs were made of the same stuff as Messi!!! What nonsense!!!! EPL is not the end and be all of ir - just in money terms!!!

He'd be half the player at a different club

Which is why I asked the question. Does he stay at Barca because he is comfortable and doesnt want to take the risk of playing in another country which is far more competitive.

Its a question, I'm undecided regarding his motives in staying in the safety zone that is Barca. And H, it isnt as stupid as you think. No one knows what goes on in Messi's mind. He maybe worried about the physical side of the Prem, who knows.

It was simply a question worth throwing out there and while he stays where he is, no one can say if he is a bottler or not.

He wont come to The PL because he is scared.

Ronaldo is the best player in the world by a mile.

Kinygerbills, You are going over the top, it is debatable whether Messi is better than Ronaldo but to say that CR7 is better by a mile is ridiculous.

That's called clinging on to the straws spurs93.... Messi has won too many things to be called into question about the quality of his skills.... Messi ought to be credited for staying with Barca - it show loyalty and Barca showing their commitment though the high salary they pay him...

People say he is the best player of all time, I don't think he is. Clearly a world class talent and easily one of the best players on the planet. But for me 67 has a point Messi has had it very easy in Spain for a long time. Still needs to deliver on the international stage as well. World cup. Maybe this year will be the year he does just that...

I suppose to answer the question..........he isn't a bottler. I would never class him above Ronaldo. Ronaldo is class and will play in any team, anywhere and will be the best player on the pitch.

as I said, take Messi our of that Barca team and he wouldn't get half his goals. he's living a life of luxury in footie terms, roaming round the pitch, the whole team creating for him, opposition not even bothering to try play against them. He's a class player, but not "the best" which I hear people saying so often.

The guy has scored 73 goals in one season that is astonishing and nothing anyone can say will be able to take anything from that achievement
