Merson on Jesus

The cracked head is at it again. For any number of reasons (off his medication; massive chip on his shoulder; can't hide his bias and do a professional job - take your pick) this former player has a pop at City maintaining the overall drip, drop effect we see so often in mainstream media. Fair play to Jeff Sterling for trying to keep this wally on track but this is the sort of stupid hypocrisy that drives me up the wall. Instead of celebrating the arrival of young talent into the Premier League he opts for the lowest common denominator- go for the "bloke down the pub" approach but on a major sports network.

Would he have made these comments about Jesus if the lad had signed for his beloved Arsenal? I think not.

You make it sound like he actually thinks before he speaks. he's not paid to think. he's paid to gob off and play to the lowest common denominator. It's easy for him, because he appears to be the lowest common denominator

Merson is probably hurting because of the Gunners inability/refusal to fully stock up on World class talent (how might they be if they splashed out on a really top goalscorer, Benzema or even Aguero...). He is speaking to the bloke down the pub - I'm not the bloke down the pub therefore 'Merse' doesn't speak to or for me.

But Hey Zeus! is only 19, and with the best will in the world I can't see him still being with us in five years time - we must enjoy him while we can and help him develop into a truly fantastic talent.

Do you believe he'll inevitably end up in La Liga KCT?

Is it something that can change, the top players ending up in Spain? Can we set a benchmark here or is the lure just too great? If it is too great what is it that makes it so? Culture and climate? Or is it just the prestige?

Lots of questions there sorry but the subject intrigues me.

On what level, Bluedub?
Merson states what we all probably think is the obvious with regard to the status of the Big Two.
Spain has many other great and historic clubs, but I wonder if they get fed up with losing their best (eg Rakitic moved to Barca from Sevilla), because all the factors (crowds, TV deals, (un)subtle help) seem so weighted in their favour?
Climate must have a large bearing as well, although games in La Liga shown recently on Sky have been played in filthy conditions :010:
This maybe a cycle, and could equally apply to the PL. 20/25 years or so ago, Italy was the place to be.

I wonder why player like Toure, Silva, De Bruyne, Aguero, Kompany signed for City, we aren't Stretford oh no!

It would be fabulous if it did change and we did create a benchmark - there is just something about the lure of Spain - culture, lifestyle etc - the rags couldn't hold onto Ronaldo, likewise Liverpool with Suarez.

Maybe it's a North/South European divide; VK4, De Bruyne, Sane, Wiekens & Hareide are Northern - the odd one out would be Merlin. Argentina is further away from the Equator hence we have more joy with Argentinians than Brazillians (I know I might be generalising/F25 via Russia).

Also maybe there is the' rite of passage' to Spain - Ronaldo (via the Netherlands), Messi, Maradona, Ronaldinho, Neymar etc.

I'm trying not to be a pessimist...but in the meantime three points on the South coast would be nice, then we can start reeling Chelsea in...

I find it hard to disagree, although we have managed to retain Aguero so maybe just maybe we're beginning to see a shift?

Fair point about Italy CITK, it'd be nice to see the cycle swing the way of the Premier League with City the driving force behind it.
