Livingston have signed former Blackpool forward Dolly Menga – who was lined up before new manager Gary Holt joined the club.
The 25-year-old Angola international has signed a two-year contract after leaving Blackpool at the end of last season following eight appearances in Sky Bet League One, all off the bench.
Menga started his career in his native Belgium, featuring for Standard Liege, Sint-Truidens and Lierse and the country’s Under-21s team, before spells in Italy, Portugal and Israel.
Livingston assistant manager David Martindale said “Dolly has been in the pipeline for a week or so and was in training with the club last week. He really impressed and we were keen to get him on a contract.
“He can play on either wing, but predominantly the right, and can play up top as a ‘9’ or second striker. He is a strong, powerful player with a great turn of pace. Dolly also has 10 caps for Angola and is the current national team captain.”
Martindale added that Livingston had extended their recruitment networks after realising soon after promotion that they needed to look to alternative markets to sign players within their budget.
“We have lost three or four players in the summer to Premier League and Championship clubs as we just couldn’t compete financially,” he said.
Holt added on the club website: “As Davie has said, Dolly was tied up before I got the job and I’m more than happy with what I have seen from footage, and what I have been told from the coaching staff.
