Alert Team
I do laugh at some of the opinions I've read in the press, it's clear that the same stuff is trotted out year after year then put away and brought out at the next window...

It's the same old tired predictions every year ... all of Spurs best players are going to be poached away and the club will implode., it's regurgitated endless and swallowed whole.

And when it doesn't quite happen like that, all of these predictions are quietly shelved, until it's time to dust them off again the following year.

Such pundits/journalists (and club managers) should really be asking themselves three key questions (and a few sub-sets):

1) How come Spurs have managed to acquire and/or develop so many players that so many other top clubs want (is it sheer luck, or something else - bear in mind, that some think our transfer scouting approach is utter shite) ?

2) How come Spurs have managed to do this on an 'apparent' fraction of the money (transfer fees and wages) spent by every other club that anyone cares to point to? (Yet, according to some have the worst scouting set-up since the British invented football - even if the buy/buy out stats underlines it has one of the most successful).

3) Why do hard-nosed agents (not known for their largesse) simply bend over and allow Levy to screw them (and their clients) sideways at every opportunity i.e. every single contract negotiation ever envisaged or invented in a pundits/fans/journo's mind - yet the players still sign ? (Are all his counterparts that weak willed?).

And when they have figured out the answers to these questions, they should seek to apply them to other clubs ... and perhaps then they wouldn't have rely on weak ideas or dire predictions to fill their column inches.

That's why this article is soooo good.

Shannon sent us the following:

Managers of the "big" clubs are deciding to have their say on Spurs. A week ago Jose Mourinho said something about our "zero pounds" expenditure. Whether it was intended as a sly backhander only Mourinho will know. There's no reason for any of us to give a damn.

But this week's attack by Chelsea's Antonio Conte - and make no mistake, it was an attack - on what he called our lack of expectations and ambition - as evidenced by our lack of spending - was extraordinary. Conte is a passionate man. One can tell he is by his wild simian antics on the touchline at every Chelsea match. But he is also a solid thinker and speaker about football.

I enjoy his honest, considered and thoughtful post-match interviews. And one has to ask whether he does not make a valid point or two in his broadside against us. For example, he says if you want to improve your side you have to buy expensive players.

Let's give the unrestrained Italian-speaker the benefit of the doubt and assume he meant good players rather than just expensive players. At Chelsea the two things are often confused. What Conte doesn't address is the quality that might be coming from the Spurs youth academy - at the same time that he admits that Harry Kane, an academy graduate, is a great striker.

Just perhaps the Spurs leadership have spotted something else there.

Also, there is the undoubted benefit of having a young, hungry squad of players playing together for a few years, as Spurs have, honing their skills and increasing their desire for success. Not to mention one of the brightest young managers in the world, someone who it seems can actually coach and not simply spend.

Some Chelsea supporters have suggested that Conte might have taken exception to what the "hypocritical" Daniel Levy said in a recent interview about unsustainability of spending in the Premier League this season. I read that interview too.

I agreed with many things Mr Levy said, and I found absolutely nothing offensive to anyone in any of his statements. The fact that Spurs' lack of spending in this transfer market is such important news speaks volumes about the herd mentality of the "big" clubs. They spend out of fear because they believe their rivals are going to get ahead of them.

We're simply marching to the beat of our own drummer and they don't get it. I have only one question for Conte: Why not worry about your own bloody club?

It can be summed up like this 80; many clubs in the past have spent vast sums trying to take on what was traditionally the 'Sky four' any success they had was bought with (in context for the period) vast sums of money - any success they had wasn't sustainable and you'll now find around 22 clubs that tried and slide down the table/league when the out and out gamble didn't pay off...

Even big spending billionaires that have tried have run away and licked their losses, even Liverpool were nearly brought to their knees by this very process.

Now we've upset the status quo by challenging by pursuing incremental improvement - a process I beleive truly started under Harry, and built on what he did from there - people forget he turned the club upside down and inside out at all levels (of course including bringing in his 'trusted' aids, long since gone) but what they started and all the planning around the academy and the nationwide/Europe wide changes in the teams and aims of the scouts made a huge difference - finally we're seeing the academy produce both kids and a net contribution to revenues - something we hadn't really managed in decades.

The traditional big 4 now 5 are spending big, their revenues added up over the last decade towers above our capital employed; their balance sheets reflect that.

We're challenging the status quo, you can ether celebrate that or denigrate it (as some do) but what you should do, is understand it.

Spurs will never finish in the top 4, wait and see.
Spurs will never finish in the top 4 two seasons running, wait and see.
Spurs will never challenge for the title, wait and see
Spurs will never be build a new stadium, wait and see
Spurs will implode soon, wait and see.

Rinse and repeat ...

the new ones:

Spurs will never win anything under Poch, wait and see
Spurs will have a disaster season at Wembley, wait and see
Spurs will lose all it's star player this summer, wait and see
Spurs academy won't remain in the top 3 of the PL, wait and see
Spurs won't sign anyone this summer, wait and see

Rinse and repeat..

But, the argument many make (and we presently cannot argue against) is our approach doesn't win trophies. We have become a consistent top 5 team, but are yet to win more than 2 league cups in the last 2 decades.

I can totally appreciate why so many fans are feeling ripped off by our club at the moment, especially when we have a squad who are so close to being more than good enough to win the PL.

So when we finally sign some players, is that spending through fear? I personally think big clubs spend money because they can and want to win trophies. They have ambitions. I don't think it's fear. You can't stand still at the top if you do you are going to fail.

I really fear a mass exodus during the next couple of years. Levy won't change his philosophy over wages and transfers and players will revolt as a result. Rose is a catalyst. Others will follow. We had such a golden opportunity to move forward and improve the squad and as RD has said we appear to have been pushed into thinking about buying players, rather than being proactive and showing ambition to compete for trophies.

Crucial time for Spurs. Crucial time for Levy. I can see our squad looking pretty depleted this time next year.

Levy has well and truly dropped the ball on this.

Only so long you can by players you rate at the value you do and pay half them
The value of players 1/3 of the value.

If Levy dropped the ball, it's because ALL the players agents are useless c**ts - and I've yet to meet a single agent I'd put in that category - you can call them greedy c**ts or anything else, but the conundrum for me is how Levy manages to screw some of the very best greedy fcukers in the business season after season....

Think about it people, agents aren't wilting wall flowers and our deals are based on basic + performance bonus that can almost double a players reputed wages - just wait until you see the 2017/18 wages numbers.

I don't disagree Rose should be upset with his agent, as mentioned elsewhere I'm not overly bothered if he goes.

I am bothered if Alli etc feel the same behind closed doors, like it or not the players are under paid.

It's a horrible horrible business, that someone claims to be underpaid on 65k etc when the NHS is falling to bits, but it's football

Wether people understand it or not, there are five wage leagues in the PL and we're top of the second one - no question we will have to bridge the huge financial gap at some point into the top division to keep mature players, but that simply isn't possible now - it's no more complicated than that.

Roses' agent is a useless fcuking twat if Roses comments are to be believed and if Rose had a smattering smarts about him and he actually believed his comments rather than the prepared parrotting he did - he'd have sacked him.

As it is, he isprobably now rubbing his hands together after an episode in a London eatery of the wheeltappers and backhanders club...

If what you say is true, it isn't that much of a conundrum how Levy talked agents into players staying.

If the players have contracts whereby meeting performance targets doubles their 'reputed wages', it is quite clear that players will expect the club to buy proper talent for the here and now to ensure that the targets are met so they 'double' their wages. Buying no one and looking like that will impact on performance is going to wind them up - Rose is but the tip of an iceberg.

Doesn't matter really as however Levy / ENIC / their apologists dress it up, because we won't be able to carry on paying 1/3 of the going rate if we remain 'successful' in the PL. Tightness is tightness and only comes from owners who view strong profit lines on balance sheets in the same way as non-brainwashed fans view trophies.

NEGOTIATION has no C. No offence meant just helping with literacy. I'm not perfect either before anyone jumps in.

C stands for **** in certain players case....

It's a strange situation whereby our players have actually finished top4 2 seasons running, but are not earning top4 money.
Top4 money being that paid by 5 clubs funnily enough, manure, citeh, chavs, scum and the scousers.

Who can really blame them for getting the hump with it, it's not even like they've managed to put some medals in their collection for their efforts, our weak squad soon puts a stop to that.

Jesse Lingard 100 grand a week, think on that for a minute if you're a Spurs regular top4 player for the last 2 seasons.

There's a reason why Toby hasn't signed up yet.

Should Levy just sell the lot instead of making us go through the drip drip torture ?

Yep, there is' it isn't the wages he's being offered, it's his/his agents insistence on an inclusion of a pre-determined buy-out clause that may well be way below his open market value.

If I were Levy, I wouldn't let him have it, to a club like us, clauses like that could wipe us out if all players started demanding them.

Lol.

Does Richmond still frequent this site?

Just wondering what he thinks of Paulinho's move to Barcelona. You know, that Paulinho who doesn't have an ounce of talent! :17:
