Quite impressed by Lampard’s comments in the DT. To paraphrase...he’s clearly frustrated but pays tribute to the commitment made by Mel Morris and says he knew what he was getting into and isn’t about to start ‘crying about it’.

On the plus side we have a much younger side now who, imo, play much more attractive football.
On the debit side, much of our youthfulness is down to the loanees who may or may not still be here next season and if they go it may be a case of building almost from square one again next season.

Hopefully, come next summer many of the most draining and unproductive contracts will be done and we’ll be in a better position to make Marriott like signings when that happens.

Personally I hope FL is still in post to oversee all that...he will be in demand though and as recent events down both the A50 and A52 have shown us...nothing should be taken for granted.

Haven’t completely given up hope of the ‘missing piece’ being signed in the next three weeks but I have to admit it’s looking increasingly unlikely. Pity...we aren’t far away imo.

RA not very hopeful that missing piece will be bought But hope I'm wrong Still depends on getting more out and that's not going well I've said before Anya and Butters will take some moving

Both our clubs seem to get involved in these managerial roundabouts. It's your turn next.:utv:

Mature Lampard ? Sounds like a new brand of cheese.

Only in your head...and as for ‘your turn next’...only in your head too.
Welcome back though...you seem to have lost some ground...as well as a manager in your absence.

Welcome back Basie I kept telling you Kranky would be gone before Lampard you wouldn't have it Thought you could have done better than Oneil

I've always liked him. An Ex Belfast Law Student, one of the few players who wasn't totally owned by Cloughie.

If we have you certainly haven't taken advantage of it. Martin O'Neill is here for the long term, whereas Lampard is hoping he is on the 1st rung of the managerial ladder to somewhere else then you'll be looking for someone else (again).

You might be right Basie, however, I think that FL is here for the medium term. He is not here for the long haul but he is here for 2 to 3 years minimum. He knows that he has to put down a marker with us before making ome or two moves towards where he wants to be..... Chelsea. We Rams are under no illusions. If he gets us up and wins the title he may stay but, realistically, he will move on but not as soon as you seem to think.

Not sure about the ‘long term’ Basie. He’s only about six weeks away from his 69th birthday and can be a tad temperamental.
Certainly got great history with Forest but it is from a very long time ago and I doubt he’ll happily accept the ultimatums your owner seems to specialise in.
He won’t be pushed around by any bully boy owner that’s for sure. Smacks a little of our Roy Mc and Colin Todd appointments, only when they were twenty years younger. Never really worked.

No he's here for the long haul Kranky has just used a small club walked because he knows there are bigger clubs waiting for him

Bigger clubs, such as Mansfield, Chesterfield, Burton which means he wont have to move house. Perhaps even the relegation bound league founding club just across the river?

We shall see. Went into management about the same time as Nigel Clough but whereas Nigel never strayed out of his comfort zone Martin forged ahead & achieved things. Like Brian Clough he makes do with what he has & recently did take a modest Irish side to the quarter finals of a major competition. Both Neil Warnock & Roy Hodgson are older than Martin & both could do a job at any club. I also remember Billy Walker Forest's longest serving manager who took Forest back into the top flight. I don't have a fear of older managers & I actually prefer them. They are more settled & not continually looking forward to their next upwards progression like Frank Lampard is.

You may be right. We shall see. Forest have a spectacular recent history of hiring and firing and O’Neill hasn’t managed at club level for six years.
He’s a committed Sunderland fan and didn’t last ever so long there.
There’s a lot to be said for age and experience but equally, as with Lampard, more youthful managers have a lot to prove and the ‘hunger’ to go with it.
Sometimes the return of the ‘conquering hero’ works...sometimes it doesn’t...ask Stuart Pearce, that worked well.

The trouble with young managers is that nobody benefits but themselves. The likes of Hartlepools, Wycombe & Derby remain small clubs long after their successful managers have moved on. At least if these clubs produce successful players who move on the little clubs receive a financial reward which can greatly improve their financial structure. Notts County employed an old Manager in Jimmy Sirrel who took them from the bottom flight to the top in consecutive seasons. They also took on Sam Allardyce & Steve Cotterill who were soon prised away from them.

For the long term? Ha ha, its a return to an old club player a retrograde step and one that you will be lucky to see last more than 12 months!

Yes agree age doesn't matter but the problem will arise when they don't get a say in your transfers Kranky wasn't having Mendes saying who was coming in and can't see Martin or Keane excepting either
