What’s all this commotion about Fernandez. I’ve watched him perform for the Hammers, nothing special, another average dude, certainly not worth 85 mil.
There’s better quality out there; Warton, Scott, Paz, Guimaraes (that starts the list), at under 80mil, throw the line in the ocean, not the pond!

I believe he would, I just hope he hasn't been put off - believe me as I told the mods when I got back, I was convinced we'd get a deal done - but now I have no idea.

It seems we have reached an agreement with players reps, so sadly a player I think is better but unproven in the PL is extremely unlikely to still be a deal target now.

Completely agree, I don't understand that value. Watched them several times last season and he never stood out as a £85m player to me.

I think we'll agree a sum somewhere south of that, West Ham setting that ask and us paying it are two entirely different things, stay calm. They've also set it that high as 15% (at least - some say 20%) will go back to Southampton.

I don't doubt your appraisal of Paz but you have to wonder why RM are letting him go if he is a special talent?

If The Special one wasn't there and demanding big changes, I think he'd get his chance at RM, as it is if they do sell him, they'll almost certainly have a set buyback agreement for the next 3 years or so.

He cost West Ham £40 mill, with agents fees and his salary that's looking close to £50 mill - then add the sell on percentage of 15% (the lower expected fee) at £70mill and they have to pay £10 mil of that away; net to them after bonus's etc that were in his original deal and chances are that reduces to less that £6mil profit...of course to get the deal over the line he may well give up his appearance and win bonuses, and his agent might be persuaded to drop his normal 10%...but that's doubtful.
That's why they're looking for around £80 -£85 mill

Doesn't make him worth it still though. Ok they paid 40/50m for him, they got relegated and he wasn't exactly a world beater. They should be lucky to get back what they paid for him.
I can only imagine what sort of fees our players would have gone for if we got relegated, it certainly wouldn't be anything near that sort of money.
