Match Thread: Reading Vs Villa, TUE 15th, 8PM

We go again as someone used to say.

With Steve Bruce being so defensively minded - trying to keep himself in a job and also trying to correct the Cardiff game and score where he made Neil Warnock's management skills look like Alex Ferguson's then I can see a very defensive team with 5 at the back hoping for a breakaway goal to get something out of the game.

As per the last ten months, I don't expect to see something resembling a good performance from a Bruce team so we can only live in hope.

In terms of a prediction - Well just like the Cardiff game I honestly can't call it because I just don't know what Villa team will mentally turn up and can they play 90 minutes instead of the usual 45?

Thoughts and predictions here folks and thank you in advance to the loyal fans going - The clubs fantastic away support really does deserve better.

I've nothing but pessimistic thoughts about this one. Apparently Bacuna might well play for them if his transfer goes through, you just know he will score.

Football is about scoring goals. Reading aren't Cardiff. We have to go there and fight, and that means attack. The lads have to put right the Cardiff mess. You never know, Hogan might actually score.

I'm fairly confident Bruce won't see it that way.

Another away sell out and whilst i'm still in the Black Country my ticket is in South Shields as it didn't arrive till Saturday me daughters posted it down here to me just hope the post is early Tuesday.Apart from that the only result I can see is another mauling Bruce just seems clueless as what to do about I'm afraid and his comments almost sounded like a resignation speech it's a shame as I do like Bruce but his football is dire just hope the next manager has been chosen by a well thought out plan and they have done proper due diligence this time.

I don't think it matters which 11 players are out on the pitch, if they don't have some direction from the manager, they will run around like the same headless chicken we've seen for the past six seasons.

2 games into a new season and the stuffing has been well and truly knocked out of me. Anything other than a defeat will be a Brucey bonus as they say.

For me Agbonlahor and Hogan should be dropped. Lansbury just misses out for Hourihane who needs to take his chance to shine

Johnstone
Bree, Chester, Terry, Taylor
Whelan, Onomah, Hourihane
Adomah, O'Hare, Green

Goes without saying a win would start our season and from there we could build.

Sadly after what I saw at Cardiff, I have little to no faith. I would love to think that was a wake up call but two games into a season they should not need a wake up call. Bruce did sound defeated, admitted he's not been able to fix the away form, that doesn't really set the tone for the players.

Part of me says I'd take a draw but to be honest, draws are of no use points wise really when you can't rely on picking up good wins as well.

Lansbury and Agbonlahor should be out, play 2 up front and kept compact. I expect a better performance on Tuesday..... only because of the Terry factor not Bruce.

Still can't see us getting anything out of it though. 2-1 to Reading.

I would definately play Davis, he is the only forward we have who can hold the ball up and when he played v Brighton in the last game of the season we looked so much better when we had someone who could do that. It enables the midfielders to run beyond him whereas if they do that now we are hopelessly exposed as the ball goes straight back to the opposition.

Well if Steve Bruce wants to save his Aston Villa career, he has to start here. It saddens me that it has come to this (again, again & again) but what can you do?

If Cardiff out-muscled and out-fought us then Reading will out-football us. So what exactly are we about then if we can't play football or get stuck into teams? Pretty much nothing by the looks of it.

If we get a reaction, then great, it will be kudos to Bruce and he can stay a bit longer (another game or 2) to finally get us going.

If it's anything like Cardiff, then fuck me, what choice will Xia have?
