Who Are The League One Managers? No.11: Grant McCann (Hull City):

On 14 October 2001, West Ham United travelled to Ewood Park for a Premier League match against Blackburn Rovers. It was a day that West Ham fans were destined not to forget, but particularly so for an inexperienced twenty-year-old midfielder named Grant McCann.

I see that Look Hull only covered Hull aspect of the game today on yesterdays evening news, we did get a mention from a community view in a different article but implied we were still a lower league team, no mention of our chances getting promoted.

Can we dampen Hulls party hopes today and keep our thin chances of the automatics open? After last weeks result Charlton will be the last team Peterborough want to be visiting. The Big🍎 has really blown smoke on the starting eleven with yesterday’s briefing. Looking forward to seeing what the starting line up is going to be. What an atmosphere there would have been today with a sell out at the Bank. Come on lads 👊💥👏👏

A win today could see us guaranteed a PO place subject to Pompey (KO 1pm) losing and Donny failing to win. Either way a win sees us all but there I think.

Hard to have many theories about the outcome based on our league fixture earlier in the season which was a bit cagey / they'd clearly furloughed any ground staff who'd ever seen grass before. From what I recall they had a lot of the ball but we had some of the better moments. Not sure if they've improved or carried on the same trajectory based on the table - we know about our dodgy run.

It would suit us if they had more of the ball again and we defend all the balls they put in the box properly, then hope Rogers and Johnson execute on the break.

I guess we can also take heart from the cup game as if I recall, personnel didn't change as much as you'd expect.

Wonder what the Ifollow gate will be today? Its days like these that are painful to miss out on. Imagine the pre-match atmosphere at the pub, then the walk to the ground with the noise and excitement building, the queue to get in that moves too slowly the mad dash to the hell hole to get the pre match piss splash back before finally climbing the steps and seeing a full house in full voice. Oh well better get the TV on at half two and open another bottle 😢😢😢 Come on lads, you can do it :toot::toot:

Well I’m getting my iFollow pass later and think we’ll win which will put more pressure on hull and hopefully some self doubt in their hope’s of promotion. Imps 4ever

This is a week when no crowds is really going to hurt.

Different context but watching the 2017 Macc video this week really brought home what we're missing, Sincil Bank would have been electric this afternoon with a full house including full away end.

Then repeat at London Road next week.

In between times, irrespective of being able to get tickets for those two, Shrews on Tuesday would have been a definite.

Come on you Imps, let's do this!

Big dilemma for MA today.

Does he go for that distant automatic promotion place by playing his returning key players (Grant, Bridcutt, Hopper)? Today is the most challenging of the five remaining games and he needs as experienced and capable a team as he can muster.

But would they be up to speed? Would it be better to play those who have been playing regularly, rather than two or three who have not? That would also apply to Jackson and Walsh, who have been more active recently than the other three. So would the side actually be weakened by playing two/three/four/five of the missing players? We have built some impressive momentum without them.

On that basis, would it be better to allow the returning players to reacclimatise gradually over the next week and avoid the possibility of them breaking down again? Would that be accepting we can only make the play-offs? Would it be better to manage the returning players with a view to qualifying for and then winning the play-offs, rather than aiming for an automatic place that may not be achievable anyway?

Who would be a football manager?

Why so many questions? Am I bored on a Saturday morning? Why are those nice men in white coats leading me gently away from my laptop?

Looks like all our rivals have gimmes today (apart from Charlton v Posh). Can see 3 points for Pompey, Oxford, Sunderland and Blackpool. We won't get any favours so need to be on our A game!

Driving past the ground yesterday, I thought ahead to this match and lamented the absence of fans and what would be a capacity crowd. Visualising the hustle and bustle, the cacophony of noise roaring out from the Bank and then hit by the stark reality of the complete opposite being in operation today. No fans, no chance to roar the lads on to victory, barking at the opposition's fans and players, berating the ref and being enveloped in a white-hot atmosphere.

Bloody covid.
