One Fleetwood Town Supporter Talks To Vital Lincoln City (Who Are Ya?):

"Simon Grayson is on a contract until the end of the season and so far, I have seen very little from his tenure to suggest we should consider extending it."

This just got me thinking about the average age of the likely team tonight. It must be one of the youngest ever? With the exception of Hopps, Mcgrandles and Jones and they will all be teenagers and or early twenties.

Backs to the wall stuff required, anything other than defeat will be a positive as far as I'm concerned and no negatively from me if we do lose, these are exceptional circumstances. Cmon you lovely imps..

Echo this. Purposely didn’t log on to the forum after the Plymouth defeat. Everyone is passionate about the imps but it isn’t life or death if we lose. Plenty of games to go and if we can stumble our way through the next 4/5 games we’ll have a few back to help out.

Ironic, isn't it - a few weeks ago we were looking to get the next 4 or 5 games out of the way against top sides before the run of "easier" games against mid and lower table sides which we're now in.

The injuries intervene and now we're looking forward to getting those games out of the way to get players back. Fate can be a cruel mistress.

Looking forward to this one tonight, as I'm seeing us as underdogs and any points gained in the coming matches to be a bonus.

It's going to be an interesting team tonight. When you think about all the players unavailable and think what that might have done to the team in previous seasons we'd be in a right mess. This season it's not ideal but we have amazing versatility - it's still broadly first team regulars playing in what they'd call a preferred position.

I think the back 4 will rank amongst our youngest and least experienced ever.

No idea if this qualifies for that description, but for the first league game of the 1977/78 season the back four was:

Brendan Guest (aged 18, with 16 first team appearances)
Terry Cooper (the old man of the defence - aged 27, numerous appearances)
Mick Smith (aged 18, with 1 first team appearance)
Dean Crombie (aged 20, with 13 first team appearances)

My thought immediately turned to the 6-0 at Swindon when Tony Loxley made his only appearance partnering Mick Smith at centre back, but checking full backs were Dennis Leigh & Phil Hubbard. Having said that they were at the end of the careers so age difference between centre halves and full backs was probably the problem in that game.

I don’t share some of this negativity and pessimism. A squad, although significantly depleted in number, is a squad and I’m sure the eleven that take the field are more than capable of playing our normal fast flowing football and more than capable of claiming the 3 points.

Was starting to dread this game, but have decided to pull myself together. Changing my mindset to the imps as plucky underdogs. Any points on the board will now be a bonus.
