Match Thread: Lincoln City v Blackburn Rovers

It's the third for me, looking forward to seeing which trialists we have kept from the last two home games. Adam Crookes looked good

My guess would be two, or perhaps three at most. With less than two weeks to go until the opening day, managers will now want to nail down their starting line-ups and play that line-up in the remaining friendlies. We certainly will not have six or seven trialists like before. There may well be fewer substitutions too.

From Mark Whiley's article three days ago:

"Some of the trialists could still be involved in the upcoming friendlies with Blackburn Rovers and Boston United, but with new signings close, spaces in the squad are limited.

It would take exceptional performances for them [to] play their way in[to] Cowley’s plans."

Can't remember a time with less than two weeks before a season started where we would have only 17 players. I know they are all potentially first teamers and I get that DC has things at hand, it's still a surprise to me we still have 4/5 to come in.

I guess some of those 4/5 might be loans that are finalised after the season has started. But yes, we need to see some movement fairly soon.

One more permanent signing, the rest will be loan players apparently.
So that means Luque and Murray are fighting over one squad unless the budget can be stretched?

I would have thought these would be the 2 we want to sign permenantly.Did i read Luque can player/ is a winger?

Cant make it today as not fit to walk, have to make do with golf and le tour! Shame as i was looking fward to it.
Dont forget the free samples from the new caterers everybody??

I think we'll start seeing movement next week, too.

It'll have to, anyway. Transfer window for permanent closes 5th August(?), so you'd expect loan moves to follow as that gets nearer.

Well we are meant to have 18 for Saturday and at the mo we have 13/14 available for selection due to a variety of injuries/knocks of which two are keepers.
Maybe some announced today or tomorrow depending on how the trialists do today.

You look back at some of the team photos from the 70's and early 80's and 17 was about the norm. It's obviously from an era of 1 named substitute but I think we are still getting a bit hung up on the squad size given that the season is still 2 weeks away.

I'll take quality over quantity

With someone like Luque we still have until 31st August. With a free agent like Murray we need to get a move on, and make a decision... for our sake, and as respect for the trialist

Doubtful that habergham will make game one, so we need 2 signings before August 3rd to make a full 18.
