This has the feel of a pre-season game for us. A game to prepare for the bigger ones ahead. A win would be nice, but something which isn't essential.

Charlton really have to win to keep them in with any chance of that last PO place. A draw will do them no good. Should lead to an open game

It would be good to avoid defeat - we need to keep the momentum going. It does look a tough one though.

Charlton, with their points tally and slightly inferior goal difference, really need the win tonight to keep their hopes alive. Their recent form looks inconsistent, 1 win in 5 with 3 draws.

That should provide counter-attacking opportunities and we have the pace to exploit that.

Blackpool 'should' win their last two games for 80 points, we still need two wins (or possibly one good win and a draw) to finish higher than them if that happens. But, stuff happens and with the pressure of securing a play-off place gone, squad protection and mental attitude will have an effect. I'd personally like to see us avoid Sunderland in the semis which will probably need those two wins.

But hey, we're in the League 1 Play-offs with 2 games to go, so that might be over thinking it!

We definitely need to keep the momentum going, which means a good performance and ideally a win are of some significance. As for it being a tough one, on paper it is one of our easiest away games of the season:

Charlton home record: P21 W6 D7 L8 F32 A36 Pts25

Only three teams in League One have won fewer home games than Charlton (Shrewsbury, Rochdale and Wigan). They have taken only four points more than the side with the worst home record in the division (Wigan).

Lincoln away record: P22 W13 D6 L3 F33 A17 Pts45

As highlighted this week, Lincoln are actually having the best season away from home in the club's history, smashing records left, right and centre. They have the best away record in League One, and a win tonight will ensure they finish the season with the best - see below for more records to look out for.

If we did win tonight our away record would only be 2 points worse that the best home record in the league (Posh).

Are you sitting comfortably? No fewer than ten things to look out for tonight:

** A win will set a new club record for league away wins in a season.

Lincoln currently have 13 away wins in the league this season, equalling the club record set in the National League in 2016-17.

** A win will set a new club record for points in the third tier excluding Division Three (North), and a draw will equal it.

City currently have 76 points.

The record is 77, set in 1981-82.

** If City avoid defeat, it will be a new club record for the fewest away defeats in a Football League season.

City have lost just 3 games away in the league this season.

The current record is 4 in 1947-48 (21 games) and 1975-76 (23 games).

** Two goals will equal the club record for goals scored away from home in a season in all competitions, and three will set a new record.

Lincoln currently have 49 goals away from home.

The club record is 51, set in 2016-17.

** Those same two goals will also take City to a century of goals for the eleventh time in the club’s history.

Lincoln have scored 98 goals in all competitions this season. They have reached the magic century on ten occasions previously:

128: 1951-52
127: 1975-76
114: 1930-31
112: 1931-32, 1987-88
109: 1936-37, 2016-17
103: 1920-21
100: 1927-28, 1982-83

** A goal each from Tom Hopper and Lewis Montsma will equal the club record for players reaching double figures in a season.

The club record is five players, set in 1930-31, 1946-47 and 1951-52.

Lincoln currently have three players in double figures for the season:

17: Jorge Grant, Anthony Scully
12: Brennan Johnson
9: Tom Hopper, Lewis Montsma
6: Morgan Rogers

The last time Lincoln had four players in double figures in the same season was 1987-88 (Phil Brown 20, John McGinley 20, Paul M Smith 13, Bob Cumming 10).

We have never had six players reach double figures in the same season; Morgan Rogers is a tantalising four goals away…

** A goal for Lewis Montsma will make him the fourth defender in the club’s history to reach double figures in a season.

The only defenders to do so are:

1974-75: Sam Ellis, 15 including 10 penalties
1975-76: Sam Ellis, 15 including 10 penalties again
1976-77: Sam Ellis, 10 including 8 penalties
2000-01: Steve Holmes, 11 including 5 penalties
2002-03: Ben Futcher, 11 including no penalties

Therefore Ben Futcher is the first and so far only defender in the club’s history to reach double figures from open play. Lewis would be the second.

** A win will guarantee Lincoln the best away record in League One this season.

Lincoln currently have 45 points, Hull can get 46 by winning at Charlton on Sunday.

*** Jorge Grant and Anthony Scully need three goals each to reach 20 for the season.

It has been done on 42 occasions previously, by 34 different players.

The last player to reach 20 in a season for Lincoln was Matt Rhead, who scored 23 in 2015-16.

Lincoln have not had two players reach 20 goals in the same season since 1987-88. It has only happened on 8 previous occasions:

1911-12 (Walter Miller 21, Sandy McCubbin 20)
1920-21 (Pip Rippon 27, Oscar Brentnall 26)
1926-27 (Billy Dinsdale 25, Harold Andrews 21)
1930-31 (Billy Dinsdale 25, Walter Lax 20)
1950-51 (John Garvie 21, Andy Graver 20)
1951-52 (Andy Graver 39, John Garvie 21, Ernie Whittle 20)
1975-76 (John Ward 29, Percy Freeman 25)
1987-88 (Phil Brown 20, John McGinley 20)

** Jorge Grant needs three goals to make this his most successful season in front of goal.

Grant scored 19 for Notts County in 2017-18 including a goal in each league game against Lincoln. However, none of those 19 came from the penalty spot.

There is a problem with all of that: we have no idea who is going to finish where. It may actually be better to finish sixth than third, depending on who that presents for the semi-final and final.

Personally, I would prefer to avoid Blackpool in the semi-final because they are the crudest - we have struggled a bit against direct sides this season (Evans' hoof and elbow tactics at home to Gillingham, for instance, and also Blackpool at home a few weeks ago). I believe we can beat the other footballing sides, so perhaps we need someone else to take Blackpool out in the other semi.

My ideal play of route would be Sunderland in the semi, first leg away. Oxford in the final. I think we'd run runs round Sunderland with a fully fit squad to pick from.

As for the final, I'd be happy with anyone, prefer it not to be Blackpool though. I think Portsmouth with the Cowley factor would be hardwork but I'd still back us. I think Oxford are the most like us in terms of style and approach and I'd back us to do it better than them.

Will probably end up nothing like that but if I could choose, that's what I would go for!

it is a bit like a cup tie tonight, most likely win or bust for charlton, so it is ideal timing for us to start the practice of eliminating play-off opponents.

and after saturday, now is the time to get into ruthless mode. show no mercy imps.

City and Sunderland are guaranteed a play-off spot while the four remaining challengers all have home games. Tonight's matches involving the challengers:

BLACKPOOL v Doncaster
CHARLTON v Lincoln

Sunday
BLACKPOOL v Bristol Rovers
CHARLTON v Hull
OXFORD v Burton
PORTSMOUTH v Accrington

You would expect Blackpool to get the single point they need from those two games, leaving one play-off spot available between the other three.

Charlton have an almost impossible task ahead, needing to win both games and probably by a big margin. So it is probably down to Portsmouth or Oxford.

Interesting to see Oxford fans so confident. Obviously no one has told them that Burton are unbeaten away under Mr Riverbaink and have conceded only four goals away from home since he was appointed on 2 January. His overall record is fantastic, P24 W13 D5 L6 Pts44, which equates to 85 points over a full season. In other words, they have shown automatic promotion form since the turn of the year at 1.83 points per game.

On the other hand, Oxford fans seem to think Portsmouth won't beat Accrington despite Accrington having taken only 6 points from their last 10 aways, conceding 24 goals in the process. I know who my money is on.

We cannot finish in 6th place this season.

We cannot finish in 6th place this season.
Yes, speaking generally. We could still play any of the other play-off qualifiers is the upshot, so the idea of finishing third does not guarantee the best semi-final opponent etc.

Whatever way we approach the game, Charlton have to go for it, perhaps leaving themselves open at the back,
Although I'm sure MA will want to maintain momentum and come through without injuries if possible.
