Martin Dúbravka - Player Thread

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

The 37-year-old is a free agent after Burnley confirmed on June 10 that he will leave the club following the expiration of his contract at the end of this month.

“Everything moved pretty quickly and I’m really happy to be here,” Dubravka said. “I’ve loved watching Roberto’s (De Zerbi’s) teams over the years and know all about his style, vision and the fantastic fans here.”

Tottenham have been looking to add a reserve goalkeeper, with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Jason Steele among the names considered. Guglielmo Vicario has spent the majority of his three seasons in north London as first-choice goalkeeper though underwent hernia surgery in the spring. Antonin Kinsky started Spurs’ last seven games of the season, helping the side avoid relegation, and retained the starting role after Vicario returned for the team’s final two matches.

Vicario’s future at Tottenham is uncertain, with Kinsky a candidate to assume the No 1 position full-time. Academy graduate Brandon Austin has served as the team’s third-choice goalkeeper.

Dubravka made 35 Premier League appearances for Burnley last season, keeping four clean sheets, but was unable to prevent the side from finishing 19th in the table and being relegated to the Championship. He becomes Spurs’ third free agent signing of the summer following the arrivals of left-back Andy Robertson and centre-back Marcos Senesi.

“Martin is a goalkeeper with big experience and a strong mentality,” head coach Roberto De Zerbi added.

“He has very important qualities for me and will bring balance, leadership and competitiveness to our dressing room.”

Dubravka signed a one-year deal at Turf Moor in August after spending seven-and-a-half years with Newcastle United. He had spells with clubs in his native Slovakia, Denmark and the Czech Republic before joining Newcastle on loan in January 2018. The move was made permanent that summer and he went on to feature 179 times on Tyneside. He had a brief spell on loan at Manchester United in the first half of the 2022-23 campaign.

Dubravka has been capped 60 times by Slovakia.

Not good enough to help us regain cl football
We do have three, maybe even 4 10's, mind you if we take the crocked ones out...

To many 10's . We desperately need a 9 a decent winger and still need a No1. I am sorry but Kinsky is below par and Martin Dubravka was not top tier in his prime. We will go into the new season with his fit for the championship as well as the strikers

Maddison will need managing, Xavi might not be back until well after New Year, God knows when Kulu will be back (if ever!)

Moore is a kid.

Gallagher isn't the answer, in my opinion of course.
Gallager is a 6/8 in my book. Not a 10. I agree kulu maybe done for, only time will tell. Xavi, I still believe has been unlucky but will come good, if he can stay injury free. Madders can I hope still cut it - he is a difference maker;

We also have coming though; Moore and even Lucas Williams Barnet is considered way beyond years. Both could be held back in our squad.

We will see.

My point is that Maddison will need to be managed and Xavi is out until after Christmas.

That leaves us with Maddison plus youth and Gallagher in a makeshift 10 role (which is far from ideal)

Hopefully Moore and Williams-Barnett can get some game time

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a different formation at the start of the season, negating the need for out and out 10’s

3-4-3

Kinsky
Van Hecke Senesi VdV
Porro Tonali Fernandes Udogie
Kudus Solanke Gakpo

That’s some upgrade.
