Manchester City are on the verge of another huge signing when, in two days’ time (Saturday 6 August 2016), Marlos Moreno and his agent, Eladio Tamayo will arrive in Manchester to undergo a medical and sign a long-term deal.

Tamayo said: “I will travel with Marlos on Saturday to sign a contract with Manchester City. He will then go on loan to Deportivo La Coruna for a year.”

The 19-year-old winger is described as one of the most exciting young talents in South America.

The deal is reportedly going to cost Manchester City around £15m.

Erm....the twit you've based this on is dated 28 July, so it should have been done last Saturday :048:

It looks like the most likely graduates are Tosin, Maffeo and Angelino based on preseason so far.

In terms of attacking players, it seems the pathway is being blocked by our recent purchases.

Do we really have such a great record of producing young attacking talent?

In over 45 years of supporting City the only forward players that I can think of that we've produced through the ranks and that have then gone on to international level are Peter Barnes, SWP, David White, Michael Hughes, Daniel Sturridge and Vlad Weiss - I'm sure there are others but my mind is old and addled - please help me out with omissions.

Defensive/midfield wise there is Big Joe, Mike Doyle, Neil Lennon, Earl Barrett, Willie Donachie, Andy Hinchcliffe (?), MR2, Glenn Whelan and Pal Joey. To these you could reasonably assume that Tommy Caton and Paul Lake would have gone onto earn full international call ups at some point.

I guess that what I'm saying is that we've produced an international quality attacker roughly once every 8 years and this was when the bar was a hell of a lot lower than it is now so I'm not holding my breath - although we are due one (can KI72 be considered to have risen from the junior ranks?).

I wonder how this contrasts with the Hammers, Rags etc...

Am falling asleep writing this, not sure how relevant it is but just started wondering whether our record of producing attacking talent could have been better - when most of it from Franny Lee, Kevin Reeves, Trev, Boyer, Cross, Bradbury, Wanchope, Weah, Goater to the present has been bought.

There have been some promising players; Ranson, Edghill, Reid, Williams, Bennett, Owen, Simpson, Mason, Redmond, Kinsey, Jefferies, Henry, Pardoe, Brightwell, Moulden etc who for whatever reason maybe not kicked on as one might have hoped.

Zzzzzzz....

I do believe my article was spot-on :005:
