Marinakis entitled?

This looks very cool
exactly, this is what i had in my head, surely it is possible, just difficult.

it would make such a difference to the city in terms of presence and value to the city, not at out of town new build.

I appreciate parking is an issue, but having lived near Brighton stadium for some time, it is in the middle of nowhere and very little parking so rely in train and park and ride.

If it's an idea of what can be done on our existing site, it's potentially possible to build it just a few yard upstream...

He could always have the sports village without the stadium but it sounds like he wants a 40-50k stadium which is beyond what can be done where we are… 🤔

it could be done with some political goodwill but that seems to be lacking. I said years ago EM should just go above everybodies head. The powers that be should be encouraging him to build a world class multi purpose venue and a sports village if that's what he is prepared to pay for.

the whole city is being let down, as usual.

That's very true. It looks like a clash of different cultures to me. I don't know how things work in Greece but I would imagine if EM wants something done then not much stands in his way. I doubt he can comprehend how a few NIMBY's on a tin pot Borough council can thwart his ambition so easily

He is best mates with the mayor of Athens. When he says jump, they ask how high.

Don't think he expects the same treatment here but don't think he expected the bullshit. After all he is talking about creating jobs and sustainable revenue, not too mention hundreds of millions in investment. it feels like he is trying to sell plague given the response of both councils. the two couldn't work together if you gave one a cart and the other a horse.

someone should bang their bloody heads together! is EM right about leadership- certainly fooking looks that way from down ere.

The Labour executive Committee ( is that right? You know the comrades who decide what gets done and by who?) Have appointed the incoming City Council leader. No local opinion has been tolerated on the matter apparently and like I said she's already got one major fuck up to her name. Sounds perfect going forward.

Is parking necessary?

There's no parking around the Emirates or WHL or Anfield other than street parking.

If it's in Toton, yes.

In fact, don't bother, because Toton is a nightmare no matter what.

The Tram capacity is going to be totally inadequate for the amount of people wanting to go. You will be waiting best part of an hour to even get on a tram either way.

The road to Bardills roundabout is a bastard- busy at the best of times, thousands of cars coming and going will make that road a car park in itself.

The whole location will give people no choice but to spend the entire day on attending the match. Clearly that is what Marinakis would like, but for the average supporter most of that day will be spent on grim hours either on public transport, waiting for public transport or trying to leave in hours of traffic, rather than in their swanky new bars.

Spending all day just to attend a football match because it's in a shit place is one thing when you are playing Chelsea in a full ground and a cracking game.

But when it's Friday night and you are playing Plymouth in the championship, as we will eventually... Fuck that

I've seen worse.
He's suggesting hosting events on a barge, FCS...and the administration also.

Setting alight to their ceremonial tomb - Norse style - does have a certain mise-en-scène quality...cathartic, maybe; but his suggestion is right up there with the revolving fountains, subterranean Trent crossing and monorail from Colwick racecourse.

Looking at the design, isn't he also suggesting narrowing/building into the Trent to accommodate the extra girth this monster would require?

Methinks the Environment Agency would have a thing or two to say about this idea.

not quite the multi purpose venue I'm hoping for...

I wasn't thinking of Toton, more our current home.

Parking is not an issue at Anfield or WHL, although the Emirates does have a tube station near by, there is no reason why parking should be a problem at the CG.

I can see the appeal of Toton if the plan is to build an entertainment village, with exhibition halls, cinema, casino, hotels etc, with a multi use stadium.

There would need to be work on the infrastructure but you already have a tram stop, a railway station would follow and there is the proximity to the M1.

makes sense on paper but we all know that moving away from the wfcg would be like taking ravens from the tower of London. it cannot stand. bite the fooking bullet EM- in your own words fight, survive and win for wfcg!

They had the very same argument when Arsenal moved from Highbury.

The traditionalists claimed they could not move, it would destroy the soul of the Club; the Archibald Leach Stands, the Marble Halls, the Herbert Chapman bust, and so on.

The modernists won, because money always prevails, and they have not looked back.

If we go down the correct route, that is building something to be proud of and not just another flat pack arena, I think most people will be on board.

Being able to stage an NFL game a Rugby Final and half a dozen music events a year would transform the Clubs finances out of all recognition.

Arsenals anthem and badge aren't intrinsically linked to their stadium. I'm genuinely concerned that everything uniquely Forest goes out the window and we're just another club with nowt much special about them. A grand history, but now a modern, uninteresting club without any tradition or character.

Oh mist rolling in from the Erewash doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

Sorry, I get the practicality of it all. But my desire, is always to be here. We sing it loud and proud every game.

That's UK Public bodies for you, chap.

Arsenal's crest and name is of an arsenal, based in Woolwich.
Woolwich, as you probably know is in South East London.

You could not have picked a worse example to make your point, chap.

Right......and they moved into Highbury back in the early 1900s or so. Which also wasn't in Woolwich. So they're badge had nothing to do with Highbury, and moving into the Emirates didn't see them leave Woolwich, did it? They'd left a long time before that.

The point is few of those fans in the clubs wanted the move but money and situation forced a movement. EM is talking about more than a stadium move. He wants training, academy and sports village on one site. Massive footprint. It means WFCG, County Ground, Cattle market and sports field or all of toton site. Both will need complete restructuring of transport and support structures. Both will require income streams beyond football. This is not about Stadium replacement like at Derby, Leics or Newcastle. This will make Broadmarsh look small fry.
