Mansfield Pre Match Press Conference with Danny Cowley

Vital Champions League

Danny Cowley was focussed and succinct ahead of the Mansfield clash on Saturday:-

Mansfield - DC batted off the inevitable attempts to stoke up a reaction to comments made by Flitcroft simply wryly commenting that he always 'enjoys listening to David Flitcroft both before and after the game'. He went onto outline that both sides will be pleased with the start to their respective seasons and the fact that the clubs share similar aspirations and geography makes for a good rivalry. Mansfield recruited well last season and Flitcroft inherited a good squad from Evans which has been added to since with two players for every position. They were the better side at Charlton before going behind against the run of play and the late goals conceded were simply a consequence of chasing a cup tie. Mansfield will be confident coming to SB and it is a game DC is relishing

Time utilised well - DC didn't want the Yeovil game to be postponed but has put the time to good use (mental and physical re-charge) to the extent that all players bar Sam are now fit and available. Several players are putting their hands up for selection and there was a 60 minute squad game which was very competitive. The game had officials and Lincoln Reds narrowly overcame Lincoln Greys. The match was played in gale force winds and horizontal rain with Pitch 3 being utilised for the first time. DC liked those conditions as they are representative of what Imps will play in four times or so in a season. He enjoys winter as it is the season when he discovers more about the players' resilience and durability. Off the pitch analysis had taken place of the number of goals recently conceded and the good news is that the chances being created by opposition were still low and credit to them (opponents) were being clinical. DC identified some areas that were easily eradicated and others had been worked on. The players had been given a presentation on re starts to highlight how good 'we' are at them as a strength to be used.
In other areas the squad had benefitted from an input from a sleep specialist whilst DC had taken the opportunity to work on January recruitment, planning for the permutations that could present themselves.

Thanks as always Hulloutpost, these are always great ?? It’s really amazing to think Danny has had, what, one poor interview during his time with us despite ever-increasing expectations. I think he gives a great balance of the satisfying the media with sound bites, giving fans enough to go off, and keeping the opposition on the back foot.

Excellent write up as ever

Nice to see Michael Jolley taking time out to advise our players in his capacity as a sleep specialist

thanks for the summary and link... i see bbc radio lincs cut off ashton quite abruptly. why is he part of the press conference?
He tends to ask some quite....we'll call them left field questions which can occasionally incur toe nail curling as a consequence. In his defence not always and he has been known to raise a valid point.

lots of valid points are raised on here, in amongst the toe curling stuff )) - but i would expect dc to sit and wade through it all.
i would rather dc moved onto more important tasks after dealing with the press, than humouring ashton. dc's schedule must be chock-a-block enough as it is.

They let him teach children? Jesus wept.

In Chris’ defence, he had an excellent reputation as a teacher. But he does come across, sometimes, as one of those City hangers on. There’s another one who is an SLO - a way of gaining free entry perhaps and take up his unwarranted perch in the press box.
