It was being reported on Sunday that Jose Mourinho had given Aston Villa the green light to take Sam Johnstone back on loan for the 2017/18 campaign.

That is some good news, if true.

Even if there is no option to buy at then end, at least it will save some dollar in the summer by not having to buy a first-choice keeper.

:94:

If it's true, then if we have the good season we want then I reckon we have a good chance of keeping him; first choice keeper in a PL team would be attractive.

Think it suits Mourinho as well. At the end of next season he'll know whether Sam has a major part to play at MU or not.

Yeah I have no problem with loans, and actually get really pissed off with the rule that you can't play against your parent club - ridiculous!

If you're not deemed ready/good enough to play for them in the first place and have been sent away for a loan spell, why the hell shouldn't you be able to play against them? If you score the winner, tough tits!

I know there may a conflict of interest if, by scoring (or deliberately missing), a player relegates/saves/gifts the title to their parent club, but that doesn't wash with me - things happen over a season, not a single moment.

No brainer really , he isn't going to play at Yanited , bench at best which is a sad existence.
Reserve Keepers and clowns , the 2 most depressed career choices

.

Of course due to our current status this is not a problem in Johnstone's case!.

Good news if true.

I thought he was shite when he first came. I was totally wrong the way he finished the season.

not a big fan of loans unless there is an option to buy, however if the reports are true that Bruce has to sell to buy - and I am not surprised after the money spent over the years that the new guys have decided they can't keep just throwing money (we need the big buys to start performing) then I suppose this is good news.

Bit contradictory maybe, but if he can continue to improve and we can start firing at the front, he can help the promotion push. Once back up, he might then decide his future lays with us.

Yeah I never used to like loans ('like' probably the wrong word anyway) but I don't have an issue - you sign for a club (on a fat contract maybe) for a period of time and fall out of favour perhaps, why not go on loan to keep your hand in, so to speak, and maybe out yourself in the shop window? And as I said, if a manager doesn't rate you for whatever reason, why shouldn't you be able to play against them?

Anyway, I'm happy with Johnstone (although as Melon says, I really didn't think much to begin with, would have rather kept Gollini :12: ) so let's hope he sticks with us. For the long term. And if he really is any good, maybe Manure can sign him back for a ridiculous fee like they did with Pogba :3:

I have mixed feelings about him.coming back on loan. He's a good keeper and he knows the ropes here but I expected us to sign him this summer.

Does it make a difference? I don't know.

Should a club like Aston Villa make better use of loan signings? I don't know. Perhaps we should be looking to sign the brightest young star from Barcelona or Juve on loan?
