Remember the Tale of the Elephant and the Mouse
I know this is wishful thinking at this early stage in this domestic cup competition but City could make another mark in the history books by winning it for a consecutive fifth time.
Wycombe are in the EFL League One, much too early in the season to mention their position in the League, only to say that they will be considered a banana skin. Pep Guardiola has always taken this competition seriously but he does take the opportunity to play those players who may keep the bench seat warmer than other players.
The ever growing injury list brings with it the chance for the Academy players to shine and yes like Skoorb has already pointed out, that City will be branded as disrespecting The Carabao Cup, but that boat has sailed with a host of Clubs not playing their strongest teams and in some respects City will have an eye on the weekend match with the impressive Tommy Tickle's Chelsea and City will want to play their main men at the fixture and suffer the wrath and ridicule of the media should City fail to progress.
A good Pub Quiz question to date (and I hope this is not a curse) name all the winners of the Carabao Cup.

There will be a winner tonight.

Given our penalty taking last season we had better pray it doesn't become necessary......unless the youngsters step up and show the Old Pros how to do it

Pep speaks on the crowd attendence issue .....one would hope that in a mature, grown up world this would be the end of it.....

....but we all know that like a dog worrying at a bone the media won't let this go and they will keep chipping away trying to drive a wedge be the fans and our most successful ever manager. I hope someone eventually tells them to ":censor: move on and find more productive ways to expend their energy in the short time that we are alive on this planet". Storm in a fecking teacup.

I think you have hit the nail on the head, they think if they can get Pep to leave then City will fold like a pack of cards.

MATCHDAY LIVE
Former City duo Paul Dickov and Michael Brown join presenter Cel Spellman on our Matchday Live show.

Getting underway one hour before kick-off and available on all digital platforms, the show provides unmissable pre-match, half-time and post-match coverage for each and every City game.

Combining expert insight with a unique blend will be two guest pundits ahead of kick-off before reconvening at the break and following the full-time whistle.

Time permitting, our special guests will also react to the boss’ post-match interview and answer viewer questions.

One of the best one liners came from Michael Brown in one of these pre match shows on City's official site,
when asked by Cel Spellman 'who worse the worst trainers'

Michael Brown ' Yours!' (pointing to Cel's trainers which to say the least must have been his favourite trainers for a good few years.

When Spelman next presented the programme, he was wearing brand spanking new ones

Just seen this exact same team being suggested on Yahoo news, possibly emanating from MEN so maybe a good shout at a starting X. Be good to see some of the youngsters getting some experience.

Having won the cup for the past four years I don't think anyone can realistically suggest we don't take it seriously?

XI: Steffen, Egan-Riley, Burns, Mbete, Wilson-Esbrand, Lavia, De Bruyne (C), Foden, Sterling, Torres, Mahrez

SUBS: Carson, Dias, Jesus, Bernardo, Cancelo, Palmer, McAtee.

Pep sticks to his word with a mixture of youth and experience tonight……although not exactly blending the two. A seriously experienced attacking and midfield selection with some much needed game time for Foden and De Bruyne and a front three that should strike fear into any defence.

I think he is hoping to get the job done early and then make some changes.

Akinfenwa: We didn't want City!
Adebayo Akinfenwa is a man who should need no introduction.

The Wycombe legend is one of English football's most popular players, who has become famous beyond Adams Park for his imposing stature and his popular saying 'Beast Mode' in relation to the strength which has seen ranked the strongest player in several editions of EA Sports' FIFA.

He captain's the Chairboys this evening and we caught up with him earlier this week to get his thoughts. Here's what he had to say:

“In truth we wanted anyone but City! Everyone knows we are going to be doing a lot of running around on Tuesday, but when you play in the lower leagues, you want to pit your wits against the biggest clubs you can, and there’s no doubt City are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“When the draw was made it was all, ‘yeah! City at the Etihad Stadium!’ and then the realisation quickly sank in and it was more like, ‘boy, we may not see the ball very much!’.

“We are going to go into the game and just try and enjoy it as best we can and hopefully spring one or two surprises."

Paul Dickov: Youngster are good enough
"It's fascinating that the back four or five are young kids, but time to step up. They are there because they are good enough. Wycombe will be physical, look to get the ball in behind and show the Etihad what they are made of."

Tune in to Matchday Live at the top of the page to hear the thoughts of Dickov and Michael Brown throughout the evening.

Who's who
Well then, Pep Guardiola has delivered on his promise to give Academy players an opportunity tonight.

It is as youthful a side as I can remember during the Catalan's time in charge, but what a moment for the young quintet!

For those of you who are not familiar with our debutants, here's the all-important background information:

🔹 CJ Egan-Riley - EDS captain and a local lad who has been at the Club for more than a decade. Comfortable at centre-back and defensive midfield, as well as full-back, where he will play tonight.

🔹 Finley Burns - A tall, powerful centre-half, who joined the Club at the age of 13. An England Under-18 international, he signed his first professional contract last summer.

🔹 Luke Mbete - The youngest of the debutants. The 18-year-old defender was named on the bench four times last season without making an appearance before injury ruled him out of the latter half of the campaign. An FA Youth Cup winner in 2020.

🔹 Josh Wilson-Esbrand - An attack-minded full-back who joined the Club from West Ham United in 2019 and helped the Under-18s win a league and cup double in his first season. He missed the majority of last season with injury, but is back to his best and was named on the bench against Southampton on Saturday.

🔹 Romeo Lavia - A commanding ball-winning midfielder, Lavia arrived from Anderlecht last summer. Beginning in the Under-18s, he was swiftly moved up to the EDS, winning player of the season as City won a first Premier League 2 title.
