Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur v UEFA Champions League 2nd Leg - Wednesday 17th April 2019 - KO. 8:00 PM UK Time. Preview and MDT

.....and so here we are.

Day one of an eight day period which has the potential not only to define our season but also Guardiola’s time at the club. Spurs twice in a row and then the rags where we play our game in hand on the dippers. The media have been doing their part to ramp up the pressure on the City manager over the past few weeks and with every game by their reference to the Q. Their agenda hasn't changed - they are desperate for him to fail and their mechanism has been a continual raising of the bar of expectation. Chuffed at his failure to win the league in his first season they were gutted to see him win two trophies in his second and blow everyone away in the league into the bargain so it became "not great unless you win back-to-back titles" which has now morphed into The Q. #neverhappy.

Pep is well aware of what pressure feels like and his experience from his time at Barcelona when they faced Maureen’s Real Madrid 4 times in the space of 18 days in 2011. He has shown shrewdness in his approach so far in guiding his squad through this tense period, keeping them focused, carefully shielding players carrying knocks and recovering from injuries - we have to hope that he can get them over the line this time.

It starts tonight!

Come on City!!

Difficult re the media - if they mention the quadruple then they are putting pressure on us and if they don't mention it then they would be disrespecting our achievements this season. Lots in the media about us really needing this back to back win, not as a sign of greatness but to enable us to be 'crowned' as the greatest/best ever side of the modern era. Liverpool are the underdogs, they've not won it for donkeys years whereas we've won it three times in the past eight plus they are old money whereas we are new and sometimes it takes time to win people over, although it is something we have been doing through the sumptuous football that we play. If one only engages with populist media outlets then one is going to get a one dimensional view. Lots of people love/appreciate what we are doing and will be happy for us to succeed.

It's not just populist media though, a recent example is a Times journalist referring to City fans as 'vicious rats'.

Is the Guardian populist? Their chief football writer was having a dig at empty seats at the Etihad recently whilst enjoying the corporate hospitality at the club.

I've got a feeling Pep may go with this tonight.

Ederson Walker Mendy Kompany Laporte Gundogan D Silva B Silva
De Bruyne Sterling Aguero

Danilo Stones Fernie Sane Mahrez G Jesus

I've not been out yet, but there's beautiful blue skies, and the tree branches are slightly swaying, so it maybe a little chilly as well.
Almost perfect conditions if it stays the same tonight.

No Kane plus Dier, Aurier and Winks according to the BBC. And Ali to be assessed tonight. Hope he plays. Can see him being red carded.

VK to play to light the fuse. Can see the spuds parking the bus big time. 2 late goals to demoralize them ahead of saturday. Cant wait.

nobody of consequence missing from Spurs, I think is we stop Son from playing then we might be in with a chance.
