BBC News - Champions League: Atletico Madrid must close off 5,000 seats for Man City match

the last time was to play behind closed doors and we all know what happened then, but perhaps it was too late to do much as the City fans will have made plans for the trip which was not taken into account previously, but the punishment should have been accompanied with a fine the proceed of which could have been for the benefit of the Ukrainian refugees

Atletico Madrid 1- 0

A tough game against a well organised defensive side ended with a moment of brilliance by Phil Foden who had just come on gave Kevin De Bruyne a difficult chance which he took so well to give City a vital lead in this two legged quarter final.

We were expecting the visitors to defend but despite massive City possession shots on goal were rare. On 7 minutes Cancelo won a free kick but this was cleared for a throw-in and 4 minutes later City got a corner but Laporte headed well over the bar. A minute later City did have a shout for a penalty for a foul on Benardo but nothing given.

On 20 minutes a corner ended with Gundogan shooting well over the bar Although City had over 70% possession the Atletico defence gave little away and though there was another shout for a penalty for a foul on De Bruyne there were no goals at half time.

Just after the break Griezmann did break away and they actually got a corner and Ederson had something to do. A little later City got a couple of free kicks and Sterling shot wide following the second one. After the visitors made three changes at 59 minutes City had a good chance at a corner but Laporte headed over the bar - if he had managed to head down it might have been a goal! Then City made three changes - Grealich for Gundogan, Jesus for Sterling and Foden for Mahrez. Both Sterling and Mahrez failed to make the impact they usually did. Just after Grealish had been fouled we had the great moment.
Foden takes a pass from defence and beats a couple of players before sliding a terriific pass to De Bruyne who shoots past the keeper from the edge of the goal area - a difficult angle but a well placed shot. City had that vital goal but alas could not manage a second goal despite continuing to dominate the play.
