Manchester City v Aston Villa - Carabao Cup Final Sunday 1st March KO 4.30pm Preview and Match Day Thread

Buzz Lightyear

Alert Team
We're going to Wembley
I know it is only half-time in the Champions League, but the victory on Wednesday against the Legends of the European Cup/Champions League was something to savour. Thought now turn to Sunday and to Aston Villa who will be the opponents in the Carabao Cup, but we must not underestimate the midlands club who will be playing above their normal average and City cannot afford to be complacent as a win is not a foregone conclusion but needs to be won by goals
Strange as it may seem, there will be fans from outside the champions league spots 6th to 9th who will be hoping for a City win as much as they will be hoping for City to fail in their appeal of the 2 year ban. City will be wanting to retain their title in this competition but even more, we will want our first piece of Silverware for this season.

Team News
Pep Guardiola will hold a press conference at the CFA on Friday afternoon.

He is expected to provide an update on Aymeric Laporte's injury.

Leroy Sane is set to continue to build up his fitness but is unlikely to feature at Wembley.

Wesley Moraes, John McGinn, Ferreira da Silva, Jed Steer, Anwar El Ghazi, Tom Heaton and Keinan Davis are all ruled out for Villa.

Famous Fan - David Cameron might be, it depends if he can remember which one he mentioned in his last speech

What could possibly go wrong? ( A Skoorb quote)

Manchester City have won the trophy six times since its inception in1960 - 1970, 1976, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019.

Our opponents Aston Villa are 5 times winners - 1961, 1975, 1977, 1994, 1996

Only three other clubs have won it in successive seasons - LiVARpool (1981-84), Nottingham Forest (‘78, 79 & 89 & 90), JoMU (09 & 10).

Players yet to come out of the massive hangover after CL victory over Real. Never underestimate villa who have their own history and Jack Grealish ready to impress all the possible suitors.
