Kevin de Bruyne just oozes quality. A few people were probably questioning his performance against Real Madrid. You don't have to do that because he will probably know himself that he didn't have a particularly good game but nine times out of 10 I've seen him play for Man City he's their best player.
He's an outstanding footballer, an outstanding individual and if you are a centre forward in this team then you will score goals because he can put the ball on the money.
If anyone had any doubts about De Bruyne he answered them today.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on Joao Cancelo 🗣
"He’s one of the best full-backs in the world, playing in one of the best teams in the world.

"City are always interchanging and giving you problems in different areas, that happened all game and it’s why they are what they are.

"First half we struggled in the wide areas, but I’m reluctant to be too hard on my team at the moment."

We're in the driving seat 🗣
Jack Grealish insists we can't lose focus as this season's Premier League finale approaches...

"We just have to go out there and win every game ourselves.

"We’re in the driving seat, we can’t look at whats going on around us.

"We just have to go and win every game.

"Fingers crossed, we have to go back and work hard as we have another huge game on Wednesday."

Phil McNulty (BBC)

“City faced plenty of pre-match questions about their character and the potential response to losing a place in the Champions League final that they held in their hands until Real Madrid's astonishing late comeback at the Bernabeu.
The manner of this win, and its wider significance, provided the perfect answer”
Yes, Phil it categorically did.

An important three points 👏
That's everything from me following a five-star performance here at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola's men mounted the perfect response to Wednesday's Champions League heartbreak, putting an in-form Newcastle side to the sword with goals from Aymeric Laporte, Rodrigo, Phil Foden and a Raheem Sterling brace.
As the boss mentioned, it's onto another 'final' away to Wolves on Wednesday as we aim to maintain our three-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
Until then, you can check out the best stats and reaction to our Newcastle victory below as well as over on mancity.com and the official Man City app.

Guardiola on defensive options 💬
"Ruben (Dias), Kyle (Walker) and John (Stones) are out until the end of the season. Next season they will be ready.

Those two late goals were certainly a bonus, and were among the best of the five.

Another bonus was the gift from the keeper for the second - there seemed to be nothing in Gundo's shot, seemed to have it covered easily, and then spilt it.
Credit to City we had two men in there to take advantage!

A bit of a worry that news about the three defenders, not doubting Pep's word, but hopefully a bit of disninformation as well.
I think it was Buzz who pointed out two left footed centre halves regarding why Fernie came on, but that will surely leave Pep with some thinking to do with Wednesday night and Wolves in mind.
Does he go Laporte/Ake, which he has this season, play Fernie/Rodri (surely the former), or trust Mbete?

I think Tuesday night, and the result at Villa Park, will have a big bearing on his decision.

In the meantime, advantage City.

After Foden scores Zinchenko and Rodri appears to be having some kind of intense/serious exchange of views about…………..would love to know what to was about. Anyone any idea?

Pep gets it, he has read the tea leaves, he has seen what we see, has sensed it in the questions he gets posed every week (“are City feeling the pressure Pep”?) and witnessed the palpable sense of disappointment and deflation as our victory deflates various media balloons….

In any other Universe a team that has moved closer to securing a second back-to-back title and what would be their 4th title in 5 consecutive seasons would be lauded as outstanding and exceptional. This is especially so after the events of Wednesday night and the (whisper it quietly) hoped for “IMPLOSION of City as they wilt and fade away in the face of Liverpool’s RELENTLESS BRILLIANCE” (TM Assorted media outlets).

We have threatened The Immortals, we are risking the destruction of Liverpool’s Historic Quadruple hopes and the potential that so many hacks will have to re-write the copy they have been preparing as they salivated in anticipation of this Cosmic Event.…….and the response will be muted in the papers/online today.

'Everyone supports Liverpool', says Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61373787
