Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports on his relationship with the Carabao Cup: "The first season we were out pretty quick but after we made four [finals] in a row like the Premier League. You saw yesterday was a tight game and it will not be an exception today."

On how to be smart about a 2-0 lead: "Defend when they are better and try to score goals. The best way to defend a result like this is score more goals."

On his team selection and making six changes: "We need fresh people. Good team and go for it."

GOAL!! Man City 1-0 Newcastle (Marmoush, 7)

THAT SHOULD BE TIE OVER! There's a huge bit of fortune in this. A quick one-two sends Marmoush in behind but Burn looks set to slide in and take man and ball. He does get there but his tackle sends the ball off Marmoush and loops over Ramsdale, who had no chance.

GOAL!! Man City 2-0 Newcastle (Marmoush, 29) (Agg: 4-0)

MARMOUSH AGAIN! City stage a counter with Semenyo into the box down the left. His cross beats the stretch of Ramsdale and Trippier can only clear high into the air. Marmoush comes in to head home from close range.
City are heading for Wembley.

GOAL!!! Man City 3-0 Newcastle (Reinjders, 33) (Agg: 45-0)

This is getting ugly for Newcastle. They are being ripped to shreds. Reinjders spins past Botman on halfway and Newcastle have only two defenders back against City's three attackers. Semenyo checks inside where Reinjders is waiting to pop it home.
Eddie Howe will have to change it now. This game is done and Newcastle are on the verge of a hammering.

James Trafford is on fire. It's right in that top corner. Sven Botman heads it well. It's one for the cameras.

Man City 3-0 Newcastle (Agg: 5-0)

Sky Sports News reporter Ben Ransom at the Etihad:
"“That first half has been perfect for City and frankly a nightmare for Newcastle.
"Despite the change in shape they’ve been way too open and have also missed a couple of good chances they had to take. Gordon going off injured compounds the agony for Eddie Howe.
"Guardiola’s got his players purring and they’ve shown a ruthlessness that’s been missing for a long time. City fans can book their train tickets to Wembley.”

Man City 3-1 Newcastle (Agg: 5-1)

FT: MANCHESTER CITY WILL PLAY ARSENAL IN THE CARABAO CUP FINAL!
This result has been known from a long way out. The holders have been dispatched comfortably across the two legs.
A strange game really, played without much jeopardy. Newcastle improved after the break but they were far too easily opened up early on which gave them no chance.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live on making it to Wembley again: "Many years, many times. Hopefully, we arrive all good, all fit in March to compete against an exceptional, top-class team.

"The two games we make a good result, so we started the game with not 0-0, with 2-0, but we start the game, anything can happen. We start with the right pace, momentum, everything was really, really good."

"The second half, of course, our rhythm, it's hard to sustain it for a long time. We bring energy with Rodri, Rayan [Ait-Nouri] and Erling [Haaland] come on. The energy dropped. Newcastle never stopped to press and run and press. They put three players like [Jacob] Murphy, like [Anthony] Elanga, like [Yoane] Wissa, the complete opposite of what we're looking for, going in behind and run and run, and we suffer.

On the crowd: "We know we have to embrace them through our game. We had to do it and the first half was really good."

On facing Arsenal in the final: "Many things are going to happen. Hopefully, we arrive fit, fine, well, everybody ready. I'm looking forward to that. That is all."

If we take our chances we should win the Cup final.

I got nowhere near with my team selection, but I thought that the first goal would still be important in this game, even though we had the advantage going into it.

JK is right in the MDT, a touch of luck with the finish, but the build up play was superb. With the burst of scoring later in the half, that immediate save from Trafford was vital, but I was concerned how easy it was, plus the fact that Newcastle had TWO men wide open on the cross.

Trafford made three other good saves in the first half, certainly earning his corn, and confirming his selection, barring injury, for the final.

Reijnders deserved his goal, with his carrying of the ball at pace and distance displaying shades of De Bruyne, with the game done at half time.

Yes, sloppy play again during the second half, and Newcastle really did miss some glorious chances, shades of City, but even worse at times. A couple of other scares as well, but Reijnders should've had a second.

Trafford no chance with a well taken goal, but for me it was poor by Ait-Nouri and Reijnders, I think, in how Elanga burst past them.

I suspect Haaland was a bit pissed off at the end, as he got two good shots away on left and right that Ramsdale was equal to.

Job done, with the interesting prospect of the Arsenal final to come. Crystal Palace at home will need to be found a new date.
