Johnny On The Spot:

#ENDURANCE. Manuel Pellegrini demonstrated just how important this massive win is in the scheme of great things and where Manchester City want to be by the way he thanked every City player individually as they left the field tonight...That the players themselves immediately went into a celebratory huddle at the final whistle having worked their collective socks off underlined a clear and present growing determination to make this season one to savour...These heartening signs emphasise the injury plagued adversity the squad knows it has overcome to maintain contention in 4 competitions by this stage of the season. The latest victim being Kevin De Bruyne who went down awkwardly after trademark erratic Martin Atkinson refereeing allowed an uncompromising and limited Everton side license to go through the back of City players all evening...We've all seen those niggly challenges pulled up before...It would be foolish for any Evertonian to bemoan Raheem Sterling's out of play do or die cross for De Bruyne's tie winning goal as the reason they were dumped out of this competition. Outplayed for long periods despite rattling briefly an again disjointed City central midfield and backline that finally asserted itself with the right substitutions, the statistics tell the tale of a team who came to play on the counter offering little else but a raft of fouls. That City were able to overcome this combined with Atkinson's awkward leniency is testamony to their dogged workrate...The importance of this victory cannot be exaggerated enough. Planet Blue can now rest easy in the knowledge that the taking of a Wembley roundabout is again within its grasp for something like the 9th time inside 6 seasons. There is also the contented knowledge that Sir Alex Ferguson came out tonight to watch a proper football match. Dark days for the nosediving Stretfords indeed...I digress. City have begun a season defining intensive run of games shorn of important players and kick starts don't get much better than this...Man of the Match for me amid numerous contenders is Sterling. He typified City's will-not-be-bullied spirit and once The Engineer saw the tactical light, played to his increasing strengths. Bring on the touchline Mad Professor!

50,043 turned to watch a game that was enthralling as it was controversial admin convenient loss of eyesight when City players hacked down. You cannot however blame the ball out of play on Atkinson and as the TV put it the linesman was too far away to be positive that he ball was out.

I did think at one point it was not our night, but we have seen before in the City Everton matches that the lead does not always guarantee the win.

Pellers complained about the 2 goals scored at Goodison, which fell on deaf ears as all they wanted was for Pellers to admit the ball was out. Ok it was out history will show a 3-1 win to City not 3-1* controversial win to City.

In answering the De Bruyne injury, MP said t would be assessed tomorrow but it could be the mediate ligament.

I thought F25 was outstanding, as was Aguero who battled and scored a cracker of a winner, but as JB say Sterling put in a fine performance and the introduction of Navas and Red Kev was a game changer

I'm sooooo happy that we scored a controversial goal, I'm delighted Sterling was involved, ain't karma just a bitch Roberto you absolute twat.

Didn't watch S*y after the game, any mention of Robles trying to drag DeBruyne up when he was prone? Bang out of order that from Robles.

I've seen a theory put forward that Robles may've made De Bruyne's injury worse by trying to pull him up.
Others have also tweeted it may not be as bad as it looked.

Thought Navas was excellent when he came on. Those two early crosses for Aguero and Silva were superb.

Robles has apologised for being a bellend.

Manuel says possible medial ligament. Depends which of three stages it is. If its a severe tear, 8 weeks healing time at best. The boy should make the run in and the euros.

Its all hands on deck this next 4 weeks now!

Good to hear that from Robles.

Fingers crossed DeBruyne makes a quick recovery.

Agree about Navas CITK, love seeing him right and Sterling left, surprised we didn't start that way.

You know, I should be over the Blue moon about beating the nasty Nevertonians in a semi and progessing to Wembley.

BUT...

I think the brief from Sky was to make sure the drool-worthy "ALL MERSEYSIDE DERBY" happened - unfortunately for them and the woefully bent Martin Atkinson, City simply refused to lie down and take it.

TBH, I am livid that we didn't win a free kick for the foul on Aguero in the build up to Everton's goal, and the sheer number of fouls that went unpunished all night was a damning indictment of top flight referees. DeBruyne was fouled by Robles - I'll admit, the replays show it wasn't as nasty as it looked in the stadium, but we didn't even get a free kick FFS! Late on in the game, (I think it was Baines) raked his studs down Navas' shin, and both the ref and linesman actually laughed at Navas.

Sorry folks, but the longer this goes on, the more I'm beginning to suspect that we are not getting a fair deal from the FA or officials.

Add the piss poor officiating in the first leg to the utter shower tonight, and what other conclusion is there?

With you 100%.
Absolutely ludicrous reffing we have seen this season.

Spot on re the Merseyside agenda. There seems to be a weirdo boys band select faux bravado about both their squads.

So now we have seen off Everton and played them 4 times now its Liverpool for 3.

We go to Candlefield 3 days after Wembley. Thankfully the Kiev flights are two midweeks before final. Its gonna be a hard 6 weeks.

5th 'TBH, I am livid that we didn't win a free kick for the foul on Aguero in the build up to Everton's goal'

I have had a look at this and although the defender did get the ball first his follow through from behind should have been called a foul, I thought they had brought this in when De Jong went sliding in. Navas chopped down, Kev injured and the ref just plays on, I wonder if they watch the games on video after and wonder how they missed that.

Delighted that we have record another final (eighth visit to Wembley in five years), that we beat that shower once again and defied the media wet dream of all all Scouser Cup Final......but I have to admit it has left a slightly sour taste in the mouth after the awful refereeing and especially the injury to De Bruyne.

I have watched that incident several times and there is no doubt in my mind that Mori intended to do some damage - the end result (knee) was not deliberate but as he approaches from behind he is clearly targeting Kevin's left leg, he stands on the back of his ankle and then thorn De Bruyne to the floor with his right arm in a wrestling move. The force of that action and his standing in De Bruyne's left leg causes the lad's studs to get caught and he pivots backwards unable to free his right leg resulting in the damage. The fact that the incident didn't even merit a free kick gives me little hope that Mori been booked for his challenge through the back of Aguero in the build up to their goal then maybe he might not have risked the contact on De Bruyne. They were desperate and as others have pointed out were starting to wreak revenge with a series of late tackles (Baines on Navas).

The Sky agenda was clear from before kick off when they spent 35 of the 45 minutes prior to the start only discussing Everton. As the game went on there were numerous examples of good defensive work even by Otamendi that were overlooked compared to the praise heaped on the Everton players and the ignoring of anything they **cked up. At one point Baines played a speculative long pass across the pitch that went straight into touch. Not mentioned. Their constant harping on about the second goal was as predictable as night follows day. I don't blame the officials - impossible for the referee and the linesman to confirm - but their constant firm assertions that the ball was so far off the pitch it was in the crowd were way off the mark. The margin was wafer thin and only the goal line camera (not available) would have given a true idea if the WHOLE of the circumference of the ball was over the line.

Karma for all the sh*t refereeing we have suffered against this shower of thugs.

:111:

Sorry. Just had to let that all out.
