You have hit the nail on the head with "gained an advantage". Deliberate or not, he controlled the ball with his arm. In the Motherwell v Celtic game , a penalty was given for an incident where the ball may or may not have hit the hand, when the player headed the ball 30 yards out of play, with no effect of the hand whatsoever, other than helping him jump.

In the West Ham v Arsenal game the goal should have been disallowed, but West Ham awarded a penalty for the three rugby tackles, mainly the one by Rice.
 
Only just realised we had 2 goalkeepers on the bench or should I say a goalkeeper & then John Victor on the bench, wonder what that was all about unless we considered unleashing JV at centre forward late in the game

I would expect Victor to depart in the Summer, Ortega's contract runs out as well. Will we extend his deal, or will he be released?

Agreed, all I could think of was that maybe it was a favour to JV as he’s somehow in the 50 man Brazil squad and might still make their 3rd choice keeper…

What does surprise me is the number of people on fan forums (BBC Sport, Guardian BTL, etc) seriously arguing along the lines of 'The rules changed in 2021 and it deflected off his thigh so the referee gave the correct decision', as if the rules give the ref no discretion at all to use common sense.

Anyone trying to defend that decision is a.moron. it shouldnt have been penalised for touching his arm, it should have been penalised because he used his arm to get an unfair advantage. A professional referee who cannot understand this difference has no business being a referee. Not even for subuteo.
