Man Citeh - Match Thread

Great battling point against the odds which could yet prove to be decisive come the seasons end.

I knew Fulham would lose though, I’m developing a real dislike for these fuckers. As other have mentioned, they never seem to turn up against teams when it would be beneficial for us and then save their A game whenever we’re the opposition. It’s all nonsense of course but it certainly fuckin feels like it.

Massive game for the Yids tonight, lose against Palace and I reckon they’ll be favourites for the drop. Genuine 6 pointer at their Gaff in a few weeks.

How did dominguez play?

I assume he was alongside Sangare with Anderson in front
Dominguez was his usual self.

None stop, high energy, never say die attitude - the kind of attitude that would make him one of the first names on the team sheets at most clubs in our position.

Sangare and Anderson played alongside Aina and Williams, who played as wing backs in front of a back three - well that is what it looked like to me.

You then had Dominguez and MGW playing behind Jesus, both of whom covered every blade of grass.

Perreira has had to get to grips with which players he can trust to be disciplined and put the effort in to scrap for points.

Lets hope last night was not another false dawn.

Well well well, look what the c**** dragged in.

Keep pushing my buttons and see what happens. My solicitor has a file 6-inches thick on you and your shenanigans - one phone call is all it takes to escalate this. Go on, I dare you.

What's that? Hmm? Silence is it?

Just as I thought

Last season I said MGW couldn’t be put in the same bracket as some of his contemporaries because while he was clearly a good player he just didn’t seem to step up at critical times & drag the other players with him. Well this last few games he has really stepped up it’s sometimes proving a bit more difficult to drag some of the others with him but last night there were signs that might be happening.

Well done MGW keep it up these last few games & if you leave for pastures new in the summer I’m sure you’ll leave with a big thank you from everyone

He's gone up another notch in Forest folklore to me. He wants this. He *really* wants it. You could see it in his celebration last night and when Anderson scored. Genuine passion, fight and determination.

He's leaving in the summer, I think we all know that. But he doesn't want to go out with relegation, and he's showing he'll fight tooth and nail to prevent it. If a few of the others follow his lead we'll be ok. The question is will they? Morgan can't drag us over the line by himself.

Man City and Arsenal are difficult to play against as they dominate the ball. Playing Dominguez, with his tenacity helps. Against lesser teams the shape and personnel maybe different. Feel back three is right way to go. With 3 CB’s we should manage to stop headers at back post and improve on outcomes at set pieces.

Two wing backs should be our strength. Netz on top of Aina and Williams. Sangare and Ando look settled. Two behind a striker is preferable to wingers though could change dependent on games. Question is who are best two behind striker and best striker.

MGW has to be one of the two behind striker but the other could be CHO, Ndoye, Dominguez, McAtee or even Jesus. Playing Jesus means striker is Lucca or Awoniyi. The shape is the preferred but the personnel?

Feel CHO is the preferred option. Followed by Ndoye. Dominguez possibly away at Chelsea. Jesus if we had Wood. Can’t see McAtee getting an opportunity this season unless some EL fixtures become dead rubbers.

Hutchinson becomes a super sub, when players tire, games become stretched and space wide becomes available. His best games have been when he has come on for last 20/30 mins and can run at players.

MGW and Sangare have significantly improved this season. Milenkovic has declined a bit, as has Sels and Murillo- lathough look at his match - saving kick off the line last night. Williams and Aina are not reaching the same levels as last season.

But the simple difference is not about effort- it is that Chris Wood had an exceptional season, allowing Forest to win by the odd goal in so many games. That has not happened this season.

"Question is who are best two behind striker and best striker."

I think that is the key question.

The answer is going to be MGW plus one of CHO or Dominguez, that is assuming we adopt last nights formation in future games.

The rest of the team, more or less, picks itself.

I can understand peoples concerns about the lack of goals - 28 in 29 games - but I cannot see how that is going change much now.

The emphasis has to be on not conceeding and hitting teams on the break; if we try and outscore teams it will end badly.

That may change if Wood comes back, but we cannot hold our breath waiting for that to happen.

I think it will be game dependent assuming this formation is now our go to formation for the rest of the season

Fulham - MGW and CHO behind Jesus

Spurs and Villa - Maybe it’s Dom

When Wood is back I’d play Jesus with MGW as Wood is going to need time.

Chelsea away, United away, has to be Dom

Given the intensity we are going to have to play at, you would assume both will feature in most of the games; it will just be a case of who starts and who finishes the games.

There are other plusses too; Aina and Williams look better equipped to provide crosses of a decent quality, and Cunha is developing nicely.

I think you’ll agree I’m always the first to call them lazy useless pricks

I still maintain dripping neco which will get me grief, he’s not as good as he thinks and we can replace his input but possibly add shooting/crossing and better positional play
I agree with you on this. I like him as an all action defender to man mark the salah’s of this world using his blocks and slide tackles when its backs to wall stuff , but when we come up against the lesser teams, I think his quality in the final 3rd kills us. And probably now even more so playing at Wing back.

Nico has been found wanting in a few instances recently, but you cannot fault his application and commitment.

Yes, his quality in the last third could be a lot better, but he is in very good company on that count.

He’s arguably the most committed player we have the but being poor in final third and being on wrong foot kills us.

It netz has anything, maybe he gets a start against Fulham as I don’t think he’s in the euro squad so also helps with rotation.

Personally I don't think he's poor in the final third it's just that he's not playing on his natural side so nearly always has to either check back or give the ball back to the winger who generally is also playing on their none natural side. Be interesting to see how he got on with a decent run on the right hand side be able to judge better then if he's just not good in final third

Yes. Fair point. So important at to be on correct foot unless you’re names Dennis Irwin.

Last night was pleasantly surprising in many respects, not just the valuable point gained.

As others have said. MGW and Anderson have got the bit between their teeth. They are both playing like they want it. When there is hunger, desire, and fire in the belly, it shows.

I thought Jesus’s knockdown for MGW’s goal was superb, the angle of the cross was against Jesus but he just got enough on it to put it back into the danger zone for MGW to do the rest. Anderson’s goal was lovely on the eye, although it was surprising to see Foden being disinterested in tackling him before he got the shot away. I reckon Foden is about done at City tbh.

Not many teams will go there and score 2 goals and/or get a result. This result will hopefully provide the fillip we need to avoid relegation. Well done to the players last night for a very good result and performance
