Malmö

Good post apart from Murillo was good at left back
Depends what you are after.

Defensively he was very good

In an attacking sense he was able to boulder forward a bit, but he was hopeless at interchanging with CHO, he has no pace to beat a man and he never wanted to cross from the touchline.

What I took from this was that
a) Murillo has the strength but not the pace to carry the ball along the wing
b) he can take a ball past people with close control, but struggles to do this on the touchline with restricted space
c) he can long pass really well but is uncomfortable crossing that from that distance and angle and while under pressure from a fullback.

and Mcatee is a highly paid footballer who should get his act together or he will be sold. If his head went, then I’d question whether the club should be looking elsewhere
I think that would be a very, very poor way of conducting business.

And maybe I am just a bit more forgiving?

That said, we won, which excuses a lot of sins; had he hidden like that in a game we lost, I would be more critical.

I am experienced in my job, but I never as good on my first day as I am on my 30th or 50th. No one is. This was, I think, his first or second start in his new job?

He is at a new club permanently for the first time, and he is 23. That's nothing really, especially being coddled at Man City.

We have invested a lot of money into this lad. We can get it all back and a lot more if we manage him right, handle him right, support him right. Whether he gets his act together is part on him, but being a younger player it is part on us as well.

I am disappointed by the performance but encouraged by the flashes of his quality and movement. I back him and think he will come really good with games under his belt, but we need to support him getting there. He is an investment, not some Greek free transfer punt that can be sent back to the Hellenic Leagues

Pope your comment on Murillo was “Nah” . Now you’ve explained yourself thank you but I took it you meant it was a disaster

As for Mcatee , I’m simply saying that if he lost his head that easily and hasn’t performed really in any games he has played maybe he is not as good as we thought. I’m not saying we should get rid this season but I don’t see a desire to dominate

In the summer an England team did very well in a tournament. McAtee started very poorly but with a run of games became very successful. Some even felt man of tournament although others felt Harvey Elliott (keeping bench warm at Villa) and Anderson were better.

The point being none of those players have become poor overnight. Anderson has gone stratospheric whilst the other two have deteriorated. All three, given a run of games, could do extremely well. Games, a bit of luck and suddenly bang.

Another player who played in that tournament was Hutchinson. Two 20 minute cameo’s and things have changed radically. I will reserve judgement. I would also like Harvey Elliott and Hinch from Brighton.

Murillo played in that position because we were playing Malmo. In reality he had the freedom of the pitch and could do whatever he wanted. Like a kick about with friends.
Pope, no mention of Sangare, he was superb nd bossed the midfield.
Was disappointed with CHO to be honest, I expect that in these games he should give a show of skill nd maybe score the odd goal...nd not keep looking at the sky when he misses his shot.

I don't give up in any player, being young or old. We thought Wood was a rip off, Williams too...so players just need confidence and an arm around their neck...psychology is a premium factor on getting the most of professional footballers.
The only issue is time. If you have it good if not then performance become an issue.

I agree on Sangare. We looked worse when he went on, even though that meant Anderson coming on. He completely dominated the midfield.

I also felt a bit disappointed in CHO, but to be fair to him- he did get a few shots off and on another day might have scored. The problem with CHO altogether is that he misses too many of the chances he makes for himself

I can't understand CHO's terrible crossing.
You could take an average person on the street, get them to put in 100 crosses with their right foot from out on the left, and the law of averages says they would probably be about 5 times more successful than CHO.
I just don't get it.

To be fair chap , in that scenario. they would simply take advantage of the Zebra crossing chap!
