James Rucker, honorary lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, said legal restrictions should be lifted on psychedelic drugs, which could provide an effective treatment for anxiety and addictions.

Writing in the BMJ, he said legal restrictions imposed on the medical use of psychedelic drugs, such as LSD and psilocybin, the compound found in “magic” mushrooms, make medical research into their benefits almost impossible.

Dr Rucker said the drugs “were extensively used and researched in clinical psychiatry” in the 1950s and 1960s, with trials suggesting they could provide “beneficial change in many psychiatric disorders”.

Recent studies indicate that psychedelics have “clinical efficacy in anxiety associated with advanced cancer, obsessive compulsive disorder, tobacco and alcohol addiction, and cluster headaches


Mustn't have people expanding their minds now must we.




 
It's a two bladed sword in my opinion.

If legislations were lifted, it would encourage the already black market on 'home-made' drugs. So if it went uncontrolled, we may find people dying through errors etc. Basically, it would be open for abuse by the dregs of our society.

After saying that, if restrictions were lifted and the results of these studies were then made available through prescriptions etc etc it could be very beneficial to people with problems as mentioned.

I just worry something like this could be abused by the black market, because you'll always have the dregs trying to make money out of the sick and weak in our society.

I know quite a few people who used to do this type of gear from the younger partying days. One of them is okay but the others have a screw loose now and still do hard drugs. Once your mind goes to those places there is no putting the genie back in the bottle. Glad I never indulged in anything harder than weed and drink because I think I would have gone the wrong way.

I too will put my life on the line for medical study for the greater of mankind along with utv dude and take magic mushrooms and lsd in a warehouse of fit birds pumpin house grinding music (as i used to do hehe) and bosh away until morning come :65:
 
So when we gettin this sh*t on??? BRING IT ON MAN :65: I will also sacrifice myself for mankinds gain by boshing LSD and Magic Mushrooms in a rave field if thats more appropriate btw :73:
 
In all seriousness, i remember taking LSD ecstacy pills in my mad youth, they was called ''ferraris'' and had little pics of a red ferrari on them lol, i can confirm seeing the difference between normal ecstacy and dipped in LSD is a HUGE difference and i loved it, me and my mate Evo tripped together all night out of the crowd of us and we was talking without saying anything ''I KID YOU NOT'' cos after i said ''hey Ev man there it is'' nobody knew what we was on about LOL when we had been somehow talking about seeing a floating cube rainbow coloured spinning round the room,,,,,,man i saw some crazy stuff back them days but i wouldn't change it tbh even though it sacres me to think how menkal i was back then LOL there defo is soemthing special to LSD pshycologicaly i swear

Me too, but non have a bad drug habit, and all are in full control of their mental faculties, I suppose it's just down to the type of people we hang around with.

I've done mushrooms and LSD a couple of times, and I think that's enough for anyone. Opens your mind, and it has stayed open ever since (without the wavy walls and curtains and bits of plastic turning into walking bugs in my hands etc)

I do find it surprising though that it could be a treatment for anxiety. After tripping a few times it became less and less fun, until my last one which was an introspective nightmare, I know others that have said the same, and I've since read that people with anxiety issues or prone to depression are strongly advised against taking psychedelics. That's not to say of course that under scientific study, the compounds found in such things could be used as medication in a safe controlled environment.

A bit like all those stories popping up that cannabis oil is curing people's cancer, although you won't read that in mainstream media as I'm sure there's too much money to be made out of people's suffering from the big pharmaceutical companies.

 
Very good points Stephen Jay dude, i do remember a couple of lads scared shatless when they come running out the shop screaming thinking they was being chased by evil Smurfs LOL i will never forget the terror on there faces and they ran miles ffs LOL

But a lot of it is defo down to the mindset when these things am taken, i never really had a really bad one only when i kept seeing faces like the Scream movie costume but not white but there faces was like skeleton and long like the mask, feck scary but i always kept control and knew it was just a ride,

Of cause science should get the best out of these drugs but will they ever reach the people for the good reasons though, uplifting natural drugs would help people in life.
 
I always thought the stories of people dying on LSD because they thought they could fly were bullshit until my mates' brother jumped off his apartment building. RIP.
 
Blimey that is a shame, defo some peoples state of mind has to be the impact on what they experiance, i remember seeing a lad didn't know him but went to my school as a kid trying to jump off a canal bridge and everybody was trying to stop him, if people am night thinking right or depressed etc it does seem to show bad things can happan but thats where treatments is different,,,,,,the ancient indians and tribes today take them for enlightenment so there is defo something special to them,

I remember above the dancefloor at Mezzanine nightclub in Wolverhampton there was a giant white light and it looked as if the roof was not there anymore but the weird thing is we could all see it and it wasnt the lights cos we could see the nightsky somehow inside lol, defo weird but had some great times tbh

In the UK, to hold a schedule 1 drug, institutions require a license, which costs about £5,000.

I like Bill Hick's take on drugs.

The only bad acid trip I had was in Brisbane when out walking at night through a park. I walked between 2 trees and disturbed thousands of fruit bats and had them flying all around me for what seemed an age. Scared me shitless.
