Loan watch

Gale returns.

Expect we’ll assess his first team chances over the next few weeks and he’ll either make an appearance or be shipped out to the National League (or both).
Does anyone know whether Sam has been playing central defence at Chelmsford, or as a defensive midfielder?

Maybe the recall is an acknowledgment that we have been a central defender short, particularly when Masterson was injured.

Both good players Gale and Giles with Gale being ahead in the current pecking order, I think even Joe Comper said that in his interview.

I do think however we will see him leave in January on loan again to a club higher up the pyramid. Might be wrong but just a suspicion

I’m wondering if there’s been interest for either Ogie or Masterson and Gale is coming back to check if he’ll be able to fit in our defence if either of them moves.

A week or so ago on the fans forum Fred mentioned he heard that Birmingham were monitoring Ogie. Take with a pinch of salt (he said he didn’t believe it himself) but you never know. And the rumour of Hawk to Bromley if true takes away our only real back up CB as well. Maybe Gale can fit that role.

Masterson out of contract in Summer can see him in League one . Or he sees himself there ! Maybe with us ?!!!

As for Ogie he is blessed with unbelievable recovery pace but he regularly keeps my blood pressure moving the wrong way !!! Always seems 1 strike of the ball away from a disaster .

Good handling of Gale by the club, he's done well in his loan spell so now's the time to get him back and see his level again. Proven as a good NLS defender at the least, so if he does go out again it'll be a level higher. Good to see the progression.

Based upon what I saw in the pre season games, Sam Gale like Harry Webster is a tremendous prospect who cannot be far away from being a first team regular. His recall is presumably due to injury concerns or transfer window departures. Or of course may be just to keep the others on their toes.

I reckon Sam will get a chance possibly with Ehmer and Hutton in the coming weeks . Attitude has clearly been a problem. We need these kids to make a impact mix it up and it might just get more senior players to motivate themselves or ask to leave .Win win for me Give the lad a few opportunities from the bench and see how it goes from there. One step at a time.
Let's face it if he has been playing really well at National South level he has probably been playing better than many who have played for us in recent months.

Will be interesting to see which, if any of our centre backs leave in January.
I think there’s a good chance that none of the main current three will still be here next season.
I’d expect Masterson to leave in the summer, Ehmer will also be out of contract and his long time here could be up.
Ogie seems like one we could profit from selling, but he might need another year to develop further.

Wish Sam Gale was a striker. We already have the joint best defensive record in League Two so his area is not our main problem.

He would provide good cover though, like Webster.

What you on about? Our defence has been shocking in the last few games. Ok, so our defence might not be as big a problem as our attack but it's still (at the moment) a problem that needs addressing - especially as there is so little cover for if/when any of our defenders get injured suspended or sold.

The joint best record is because of how good the defence was early in the season.

I don’t think it was even that good back then - there seemed to be a pattern of getting carved open and opposition fluffing their chances or hitting the woodwork.

At one point we had conceded 2 goals in 8 games but our xGA (expected goals against) was about 10 showing we’d had more than our fair share of luck.

You're correct. I should have said, how good our defensive record was early in the season.

Early in the season the defending appeared to be more, erm, passionate. Last ditch tackles, defending in numbers, players throwing themselves in front of the ball, etc.

Maybe not “good” defending as such, but effective and appreciated by the crowd.

By that logic, we have no problems in attack either as early in the season we scored 4 against Carlisle, 3 against Tranmere and 2 against Barrow. And that was without Andrews, Rowe, Dack and sometimes Nevitt.

Still the same players, just the ups and downs of form or confidence. Changing the personnel will not necessarily correct that and could make it worse. Sign who you want, sell who you want but those issues could still remain. Getting rid of Max, Shad and Masterson is not going to increase our average one goal per game scoring rate.

Nobody has thrashed us. The most we have conceded in any league game is 2 and only Crewe have scored in both halves. We need to cut out the bad spells and needless errors as well as closing out games. That is something we were better at under Harris.

I agree with you about cover though, which was the point I was making about Gale and Webster. We didn't have the numbers.

Harry Bridle was recalled from his month’s loan at Isthmian League South Herne Bay in the week. He scored once in the three games he played.

Announced today that he’s been loaned to Isthmian Premier Whitehawk FC for whom he starts on the bench this afternoon.

For whatever reason we have not produced a goalscoring forward for more years than I can remember.Anyone remember the last player from our youth set up that scored anywhere near 20 goals in a season at league level?
