Pre Match

We travel to Milan for our first CL game which would be so beneficial if we were to take the three points as a start and so the Nottingham game starting 11 will be our second string in my mind.

Start the same team. Make subs in the 60th minute.
If we’re up by 2/3 goals then we need to protect Konate, Jota, Robbo

Game could make or break the Slot era

4-0.
Couldn't be less arsed about who is, or who isn't, in the starting line up. 4-0

Okay, when do you start rotating, it's Forest at home

I dont think Foprest will be anything like a walk over but with Nuno in charge we should win. Is it high line v high line

Bit surprised with the lack of rotation. Forest at home isn't exactly the toughest game, we could afford to play Quansah, Gakpo/Nunez, Jones and have Chiesa on the bench

The Match

Brentford beating City :grinning:

Forest are a bunch of dirty *******s.

They are. No football just artless hacking.

Find it fascinating how teams seem to try so much harder against us

Yates is such a talentless little *************, isn't he?

God these forest players. Falling all over the place. Our players need to be abit smarter than in a hurry all the time

Who is this Yates clown?

Typical post international game so far, and not helped by a side that is intent on conceding foul after foul to disrupt us.

A consistent lack of quality in the key moments so far. As well as Forest succeeding in breaking the game up. We need to play better than this.

Always struggled against cannon fodder ..it's what's always separated us lately against the really top sides that have won stuff ..they put these to the sword while we labour even at home ..we have to find a way to blitz these kind of teams

A tough game, as expected. Forest are a very good team this season.

Forest have defended well

Forest have been decent. Well organised and carry a threat.

big Sam stuff.. park bus, long throws, waste time, long balls in the mixer, hope

Not a bad game, not sure why some are complaining. Forest defends well, especially that Yates fella

so confident we will win

Forest haven’t had a shot that I recall. They’re just working their socks off. They’ll wear themselves out eventually

We have been labored, but Forest have clearly come to get a point at Anfield.

One and half games at Anfield this season and the Atmosphere has been absolutely shocking

goals incoming for us....

i get that Forest are making it difficult. But we are also making it quite easy for them at times

Forest are bound to get tired soon.

Or they‘ll find a cheap counter attacking goal.

Nightmare second half. Absolute nightmare. All it needs is a Forest goal.

This is a second half horror show

Yeah we're just not on it today. Can't see how we find a way through.

Just one of those days going forward.
Just keep a cleansheet and live to fight another day.

good move by forest there.

come on guys, make that last pass. Focus.
But Forrest is good, they are positioning good

We were purring before the international break. It certainly has put the brakes on.

We weren’t great against them at the City Ground last season.

It's been coming that.

There it is

Shocked. SHOCKED.

Sloppy. Sums up our game so far.

Pathetic

Jesus...

Will have to see replay, but sure though Alisson should have gotten to that.
Edit: NM, he had no chance.

Fully deserved

Wtf is going on , script torn up. Ffs

They deserve it. Forest have been the better team

Damn!
Title charged over.

Let's be honest with ourselves. Only one team turned up to play their game today.

Good move by their coach to bring their best fast wingers in, cause he counted on counterattacks.

Forest have had a threat all game. It's been there from the kick off

Grealish coming on for Forest

Their 2 fullbacks have bossed us. Been so easy for them

Moreno Has had Salah in his pocket all game.

Take the 0-1 and call it a day.

Where forest getting these players from ffs

We don’t look like scoring and I can’t even remember a chance we created

This is why we’re so behind city, Madrid. We always have these results at home against **** teams.

What's wrong with Anfield and this crowd. 2 games in and zero atmosphere at all. Pathetic

We haven’t lost to Forest at home for 50 odd years, before today.

State of vvd there

You can't go from battering United away to losing to Forest at home, I'd say complacency and entitlement has crept in.
Il take a point and run at this point

Based on 86 minutes of football you have to say the best team is deservedly in front.

Forest should have 2 or 3

This will be a bad one. You can lose a game...but not at home to Forrest ffs. Its not even like we've peppered their goal and they scored with one smash and grab counter.
Been such a laborious performance with the only quality coming from Forrest.

These players should be more than capable of brushing aside Forest. Certainly should be able to make a few passes.

Worst Salah performance in a red shirt

Always been bogey *******s am totally ********** off..tbh

Forest have shamed us with the graft they put in today.
Absolutely shown us up.

Completely. Fully deserved win for them.

This one sucks

Deserved

Awful performance.
Nuno got it spot on, kept the middle really compact and we kept trying to play through crowded areas.
Then he kept his pacey wingers for when we were chasing the game.

It's going to be a long season

It was fun whilst it lasted. See you again next season

Worst performance in a decade easily. Forest looked like a better side all over the park. That was very worrying

Credit to Forest we were absolutely pathetic in that game.

Fully deserved smash and grab from Forest, abysmal performance and can't recall any players with anything positive including Slot.
You do not lose your home games and you do not put performances in like this

Well done to Forest. Came with a plan, the perfect attitude, and grafted the entire 90 minutes.
Knocked a good deal of our players back down to earth after all the arse kissing of the last few weeks.

Really didn't see a world in which we would drop points nevermind lose today. We beat these at 50%...I just didn't expect us to not even show that much.

No one in a red shirt played really well. Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, played their hand perfectly and deserved the win

This will be unpopular but credit to Forest they had a game plan and they brought it off really well. They have some players who can cause you issues if you are not on your game and today it was one of those days for us. On to the next game.

However regardless we were simply not at it today and their goal was well taken and probably in line with the game in the end.

Nuno said hes not playing through the middle defended deep stepped out and clattered are number 8s and the done us on the break. We had no solutions. Welcome to the prem. hes gonna need to learn quick.

I’m more embarrassed than angry

Sooner we find someone to take Nunez off our hands the better as well. Awful player and offers absolutely nothing.

I can't believe this moaning about investment when it's Forest at home, not Madrid or City away.
This is on the players and no one else, just look at the starting 11 v little Forest.

Only one team was up for the fight today and surprise surprise...that team won the game. And Forest deserved it, they came with a plan and worked their socks off. We came with an arrogant sense of superiority and complacent and got what we deserved.

Unlike Man Utd Forest are a serious football team

bank holiday totally ruined **** off

Annoying, but no compliments to Notts Forest. Typical PL dirgeball where 6'0" men fall to ground for no apparent reason, like they're living in a Call of Duty game, relying on a lucky (nice, but off-the-post lucky) goal from a break, doing absolutely nothing else but "working their socks off".

Was the starting 11 miles better than the Forest one on paper and value ? Will they finish above us based on our lack of spend.
It's simply disgraceful for that team to lose at home when it was a 3 nil gimme , a 2 foot putt to win the open and we get the yips.

Look here's the reality of the situation. The players thought it would be easy because it's only Forest

You have to give it to Nunez. Crammed 90 minutes of useless performance into just 20 minutes.

I'm saying there can be zero excuses for losing to Forest at home, none , nada and not even a dose of food poisoning going through the squad.

This is up there with losing to Watford and Barnsley at home.
Will take a while to get out of my system, about 10 years.

forest were good ,,tried like **** ,, had better subs than us too .. nawreal

Nightmare, slept through that after a hard week at work. Awoke to check the result only to be left completely deflated, how do this lot manage to lose to forest?????

Even with this being a transitional season you have to beat Nottingham Forest at home with the players we have lining up.
Its inexcusable for those players not to have enough to beat Nottingham Forest, let alone lose to them.

Still I think we were in control and looked solid at the back for the most part. I think Elangas pass was just brilliant over to the other side and then unfortunately Bradley didnt defend well. Let Hudson-Odoi cut inside. It was too easy. Bradley was a poor as a sub today, but he is young and inconsistency in performance will happen I guess. However, I dont think we deserved more than a point at best performance-wise.

Not sure how many of NF players played for their country, if any. They had a proper Two weeks break.

Early days in the season. Credit to Forest for having a plan, even if they do play some ****house stuff with players like Yates.

All I am surprised about is that the bubble burst today, at home to Notts Forest. What should have been a banker, non-negotiable 3 points.

Forest at home is as kind as you'd get. Losing at home to Notts Forest is unacceptable & unforgiveable, and was not part of the honeymoon script.

[Slot] we never know, maybe they will go all the way to fight for Champions League tickets, but normally this team is not ending up in the top 10, so if you lose a game against them that’s a big disappointment“

Credit to Forrest, they occupied space in the middle where we wanted to play, but they weren't exactly pulling up trees to do it

Forest is a good team, certainly better than ManU. Didnt give us anything for free, and played some quick counterattacks.
We cant expect every team to just give us the ball like United

Have to give Forest some credit for that packed the midfield and let us go down the wings then closed us down quickly there. They schooled us there in a fat Sam way.

Forest played us perfectly and we had no answer. Work hard and pack the defence. Put a couple of fast players up front.

Yes, I thought they would tire in the second half, and there was a period where it look like that had begun to happen somehere between 50 and 60 minutes, but they then began murdering us on the counter through Elanga and Hudson-Odoi, sometime after our substitutions were made

When was the last time anyone beat Forest in the League?. I think some posters live in an alternative universe in which we just have to turn up and take the 3 points.
Forest are unbeaten and in 4th place 1 point behind us.

Forest should get more respect. Best team we've played this season, easily

Its a classic "To be continued" last episode of the season.

We went to Europe and nobody died

Absolute scum of the earth I have no time time for Mickey mousers collectively & whatever the police & government did which was wrong they are not absolved of blame there’s personal responsibility and they fucking know it & that’s why they make such a big deal of it. They also need to own Hysel & accept that cannot be forgotten or forgiven

So glad we beat them I don’t care what they say & the media paiting them and West Ham as working class warrior poets is embarrassing

I think the issue for me was how many were adamant that they should never lose at home to Forest.

The reality is that we are now looking like we can be too good a team for anyone to not turn up against. Even then you have to wonder if it was them not turning up or us forcing them into playing badly.

After all the comments about how long it has been since we last beat them at Anfield, that block is now set to zero…

tbh Liverpool are usually amazing at home and if I was a fan I would expect them to win pretty much every game at Anfield.
Not against Forest particularly, but against everyone.

I don't get the attitude of Liverpool fans who complain that we played defensively and used long balls.

What do they expect us to do, turn up like Burnley or Southampton and get thrashed?

Idiots.

Few supporters from other teams are ready to give us credit for the way we have totally transformed ourselves over the last 4 years and think we're still a bottom of the table Championship club.

Not surprising when I have difficulty myself sometimes :ROFLMAO:

To many, we're the same club that had to buy a new squad after promotion and think of us as canon fodder, just there to make up the numbers but haven't been paying attention this summer.

If we keep playing with the same level of commitment and enthusiasm and skill, we'll shock more teams than Liverpool this season. Cards have been marked and people should realise we aren't just going to roll over and fill out the fixture list any more.

Usual mix of condescending, entitled fookwits with a sprinkling of more astute posters who recognise the game plan we came with and executed to the letter.

As Merson commented on the YT clip someone kindly posted on the Game thread, our difficulty now will be playing with the added expectation of winning in some of our games, especially at home. We’ve already had a taste of it in our first 2 matches, home games where the genuine expectation was to win and we’ve failed to see it through, which is mildly concerning.

It’s all about development though, we’re transitioning from the plucky underdog, grinding out valuable points with stoic, backs to wall performances to a more controlled, possession based outfit. It takes time though, a commodity rarely afforded to managers in the EPL.

The thing that gives me the most optimism however is our owner. Marinakis is a ruthless winner, he wants us mixing it with the elites of Europe again. Sadly, for him, the Greek league will never have the same glamorous appeal or riches on offer as the EPL and Olympiakos, despite their consistent domestic successes will never fully satiate this desire.

We on the other hand…

The reality is that we are now looking like we can be too good a team for anyone to not turn up against. Even then you have to wonder if it was them not turning up or us forcing them into playing badly.
They turned up

We had to play out of our skin to compete with them

We stayed incredibly solid.

They ran out of ideas

We added attacking threats as they got increasingly desperate

And by the time our threats went on they were more bothered about getting more men forward than defending us

So CHO wasn't doubled up on like in previous games

All good.

Don't question how good we or they were Bash

By far the best away performance since we got promoted

Newcastle when we beat them easily away definitely didn't turn up.

Liverpool turned up

We just dealt with them superbly

Our fans turned up.big time as always as well.

And totally dominated theirs.

This is the key

In the first half I said in the thread we are playing like our lives depend on this

Which is harder to do at the lesser clubs

But I have a gut feeling Nuno will demand it

And the competition for places certainly helps

The quality we kept back on the bench yesterday was also better than ever

Teams we might think.we should beat at home are perfectly happy to come and get a point at our place though

They will keep doubling up on CHO etc so they don't risk conceding

And won't get desperate if the game is still level in the second half and push more and more men forward

Harder to catch on the counter attack which is our strength

Not sure I agree entirely.

For us to beat a top six side, two things are required; us to play exceptionally well and them to play quite badly. If either one of those is missing then a side like us (and I include the whole bottom half, if not all of the "Other 14" in that) doesnt get that win.

We do not have the players or resources to just beat Liverpool away when they are at the top of their game or near it. We probably never will.

And Liverpool were nowhere near the top of their game yesterday.

I agree with you- they turned up. They weren't shocking. First half they seemed pretty good but were having a bad day on finishing and, to an extent, creating around our excellent defensive play. Liverpool at the top of their game would have found more ways through and finished one of the chances they had. But they weren't awful, they definitely turned up- but found a much harder game than they expected.

Second half, Liverpool seemed awful. Their fans were all saying that they just didn't come out after the break. They created nothing. Absolutely, we did magnificent defensive work to make that incredibly hard for them. But they are a world class squad that is used to finding solutions to clubs doing that, both here and in Europe. And they had a bad day because in that second half it sounds like they never even looked like finding any solutions.

I said on the match thread when the team came out that Nuno's lineup was the right one. The only way to win games like this is to be incredibly disciplined and to either nab one first half and defend it, or reduce the amount of time you are directly competing with them toe to toe down to about 20 minutes in the second half as they get tired and desperate.

You have to earn the right though. You have to defend for your lives as a team, frustrate them, keep them out. Cooper understood this and had the same tactic there last season. But if you make a mistake or they just find a solution and score, then the whole game is up. There is no margin for error.

Our brilliance was in frustrating them and making them more and more worried as the game went on. We earned the right to go toe to toe with them for 20 mins. We bring the quick and dangerous players on as they get desperate and make themselves vulnerable, and one of them takes one of the chances. Then they really are desperate.

It was a superb performance, on the pitch and tactically. Bold and simple. It wasn't unpredictable; even I said this is what he would do. But our players out there earned the right to have that shot at them in the second half.

But all that magnificent defensive work doesn't win the game if they don't fall into panic or just fail to find any solutions.

Pope defensively we were so solid we made it so hard for them and the more brick walls they faced the more desperate they became

Don't underestimate how well we played

Very few silly errors from us either

Yates got caught out ushering the ball out to give them their best chance

Sels nearly threw one in the net from a simple catch for any top quality keeper

Second half aina got dispossessed on edge of the box

Can't remember any more?

Because they were throwing men forward we got more chances to counter attack and CHO got the chance he needed without being doubled up on which he's not had earlier in the season.

It was also funny after that to see the Liverpool defender so obviously force CHO to take the ball down the line. Which he then did not once but twice to him and got the penalty shout.

Your last point about magnificent defensive work doesn't win the game unless the opposition panic.

I disagree - it's not panic as such imo. It's the fact they simply cannot afford to not win games like this with the pressure Man City and Arsenal put on them They NEED 3 points. Simple as that. They have to throw more men forward.

Our brick wall just stayed intact

Hence why these games including Arsenal and City away become games you will no longer need to write us off from from taking points

I fancy us to take draws and wins against anyone away with this team

I actually think we can be as successful away as we are at home this season points wise. Previous seasons predictions of how we takr points no longer applies pope

Which is chalk and cheese to where we are as we both know

You can scrap the winnable and non winnable games list

Winning at home against teams happy to come and take a point who happily stay solid throughout a game will remain the tough games to win. Some will be harder to win than yesterday for sure

Just because we can beat Liverpool away does NOT make beating your Brentfords and Palace and Everton at home ANY easier at all. Imo

If anything just puts more pressure on us and makes those teams treat us with even more respect and even happier to take a draw at our place

CHO will continue to be doubled up on

Just like we made it so tough for Liverpool yesterday

Don’t want to dis coops, what he did for us was amazing. However nuno is next level with a proven pedigree in this league, mainly with wolves now with us.
It was heartwarming to hear such positive comments on BBC breakfast time.
