Lineup v Bristol R

No one “claimed” Rovers were splashing cash. They just were, it’s not fictional.

And I’m not sure anyone on here claimed they were going to walk the league, but I think a lot of folk in L1 thought Rovers were going to be a force.

That’s why they got rid of one manager recently (when I think they were actually above us) because with the money and wages they spent the owners expected to be challenging near the top.

Wages is why both Brandon and Max went there and maybe in Hanlon’s case given a promise of 1st team football. They also paid big wages to another one or 2 “ins” and I believe paid a couple of transfer fees. They definitely operated in a different market to us pre-season but I’m delighted to report we seem to have got the better players.

Gaschat forum is making a heck of a read at the moment. “Worse Rovers side ever” is popping up in a few comments 👍

Most don’t seem to rate Max at all, but Hanlan is still generally liked, apart from lack of goals that is. From comments it appears their squad contains 100 defenders, 100 midfielders and just 3 strikers who have virtually no league goals in their careers.

Not a happy place at the moment over there.
Do you reckon they realised we were missing our best player too? 😂 (although Dempsey is a very close second)

No disrespect, Jo, I won't change my views and comments because you say so. I'll "lose the knee comments" when they stop wasting their time doing it (even 58 agrees with me on this one, which must be a first on something which has broadly political undertones!)

Les Ferdinand was saying a couple of months ago that it had run its course and had been diluted so it should be ended whereas Harry Kane says it is still important.

If they think a group of millionaires making a gesture that is clearly submissive is going to change the mind of the small minority in this country that are truly racist, good luck to them. Can't see it myself. I just fast forward when it is on TV highlights.

I believe that the referee consults both captains prior to kick-off (prior to taking the field) and if one captain wants a knee-take then it`s performed. I also believe that the prerogative is handed to players that will be in the starting eleven on each side. To explain why GFC take the knee on some occasions and not on others you`d probably have to consider the starting line-up and who is or isn`t in it. But even then, it`s difficult to factor in whether a knee-take is called by one team or by both.

I watched the game last night, I thought we were very good, I’ve seen the official stats and honestly can’t believe them.
Bristol Rover had great expectations in January and Bleak house in December, Merry Christmas

Dempsey's involvement in that second goal is incredible, actively wanting the ball back after a good initial run, driving down the wing and putting in an undefendable cross for Oliver to bravely finish. He's really starting to show why higher clubs wanted him, long may it continue.

Agreed, and much as I am a critic of Jackson's defending, the weight on his pass to Dempsey was spot on. Credit were it is due.

Also noticed Jackson's involvement in the first goal too when I watched the highlight this morning. Wins the ball from Hanlan, lays it off to Tucker, and then just deliberately steps across Hanlan as he's about to try to close Tucker down, giving Tucker time to get his pass away

I watched again today of EFL quest and noticed that when Dempsey took off, the Rovers player stopped running and didn’t track him back.
Absolute basics.
No wonder they are struggling.

Despite getting caught out now and again, I still think he’s a slight improvement on Fuller (as good as Fuller was). But Jackson has clearly lost some pace and/or acceleration. He very rarely gets past the last man to get a cross in.

Just had an enjoyable few minutes reading Gas twitter meltdown.

Favourite quote was "I've seen porn stars get f#cked less during working hours than Rovers. Only difference is at least they score!"

I wouldn't expect to to change your views Steve but you've said it often enough that we are in no doubt. I don't want to argue about it because I'm not too exercised, I'm not required to do anything and it's up to the players. I note that some of our players, notably Graham, seem pretty enthusiastic and Kane has an interesting take. I did appreciate the report and I did think Rovers had a big budget because I saw it reported. I'm surprised just how poorly they are doing and pleased that our team appears to be settling rather better.

I'm with Dion Dublin on the knee/T shirts thing. He says he's fed up with gestures and wants genuine action.

Not being funny, but what actually is the problem and what “action” is needed in football? As far as I can see about 40% of players are BAME. Doesn’t seem to me that there a huge prejudice against them. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for stamping out the tiny amount of racism that still exists in football, but am struggling to see what “action” is needed. And the continual virtue signalling in tribute to a career criminal who was wrongly killed by police whilst high on drugs 4000 miles away - whilst an array of much more noteworthy tragedies have occurred closer to home and been ignored by the footballing community much closer to home - genuinely perplexes me.

Are you stupid?

I often go on Gaschat for a look, but never joined. Have some Gills fans been “bumping” some old threads? Or do you mean just go back and look?
